Position Overview


Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Generalist is responsible for facilitating and administering generalist activities to further prepare the knowledge and skills needed to successfully work within the Pennsy Supply, Inc./ CRH Human Resources functions.  The incumbent will be responsible for employee training, labor contract administration, staffing and orientation, site compliance to applicable federal, state and local laws. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring HR professional to gain additional functional knowledge. 


We are looking for energetic and driven HR practitioners who have functional HR competency, hands on experience providing a wide range of HR services to employee groups, strong leadership abilities and a passion for developing, motivating and engaging employees.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Assists Human Resources Manager and Director with salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt and hourly hiring process, including composition of job postings, advertisements and descriptions, screening of applications/resumes, background checks, interviewing of candidates, offer letter preparation.
  • Coordination of drug screenings, conducts new hire orientations and coordinates onboarding. 
  • Ensures proper paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate personnel.  Maintains electronic database of human resources forms.
  • Assists Human Resources Manager with some of the HR administration work and special projects, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation.
  • Responsible for assisting with EEO/AAP Compliance process and reporting.
  • Assists Director, Human Resources and Human Resources Manager with required training, including preparation, review and distribution.
  • Assists Director, Human Resources and Human Resources Manager with development and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures, and maintains electronic database.
  • Coordinate and document all claims and reports relating to specific state workforce development and unemployment offices. Supports in the Unemployment hearings.
  • When applicable, conducts and documents HR related investigations, including, but not limited to, EEO complaints, harassment complaints and general employee issues.
  • Provide counsel and coaching to employees on a wide range of personnel matters.
  • Lead and direct community relations efforts.
  • Support organization change efforts and collaborate with plant leadership to ensure successful change management approaches through effective planning and analysis, communication of change initiatives, full and active leadership support and employee involvement.
  • Support policy and process revision and development as needed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.




To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience in human resources required. Experience with HR administration strongly preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.


Work Requirements


  • Our business requires all applicants to be 18 years in age or older to be considered.
  • Must submit to pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check. The incumbent will also be a part of our yearly random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • This position will require local travel to our various sites as well as some travel for projects and conferences. Overnight travel is about 5% per year and local travel will be less than 50%. This role will also require some evening and weekend work as necessary to support our business.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Strong business partner support. As a business partner to our business functions, attendance, trust and reliability is of high importance to the success of the team and incumbent.
  • Proficiency of MS Excel and Word applications required.
  • Basic Process Improvement Awareness required.
  • Passion and ability to interact and influence all levels of the organization – from the plant floor to the leadership team
