Position Overview


The Project/Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the operating plants in all lines of business (Aggregate, Ready Mix, HMA, and Industrial Minerals) by utilizing his engineering knowledge and experience for process improvement and capital project management.   This position is an essential function to the ongoing viability of the Company’s operations.  The position shall be responsible for supporting the mechanical and structural design needs for the company’s operations, and to work with internal maintenance personnel and outside contractors to implement those designs.  The position will also be responsible for developing, budgeting, proposing, executing, and managing the non-electrical portions of capital projects for quarry, asphalt, ready-mix, and industrial mineral operations.  The position will work under the direction and guidance of the Director of Operations Support, but will need to be self-motivated.

Roles and Responsibilities

(Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Support the Company’s ongoing operations and maintenance requirements
    • Recommends modifications or improvements to existing equipment to improve overall operating costs
    • Prepares and maintains suitable records of engineering activities
    • Assists in the direction of maintenance personnel in performance of maintenance duties
    • Provides technical assistance to all operations and maintenance departments
    • Assists in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs to minimize unplanned shutdowns and repair costs
    • Maintains competency in in current technologies and methods of operations
  • Support capital plans for all operations (asphalt, recycle, IM, quarry)
    • Develop budgets and work with sourcing to obtain best pricing for projects
    • Prepare justification for proposed capital projects
    • Execute and manage projects to completion, including designing, specifying, contractor selection, scheduling, field support, start-up assistance, and engineering and close-out documentation
  • Assist in long term sustainability and strategic projects in a support role and engineering capacity
  • Support all company personnel and safety policies
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.


Marginal Duties and Functions

Education/Experience Required


  • BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Mining, or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 1 years’ industrial, aggregate, or mining industry experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience in CAD software such as AutoCAD, or others




  • Experience in managing budgets and projects over $500K
  • Detailed knowledge of crushing, screening, and related equipment
  • Proven leader possessing strong people skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with Gantt charts and/or scheduling software (Microsoft Project, P3, etc.)
  • Experience with Aggflow or other process related software


Work Requirements


  • Strict adherence to company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.

  • Work a temporary, alternative schedule as needed
  • Ability to travel to various job sites several times a week
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Work overtime and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises. This may include occasional weekend hours
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, the general public, and regulatory authorities at all times.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and internet based applications
  • Proficiency in AutoCad
  • High proficiency in distilling complex information down into simple, easy to understand, executive summaries
  • High proficiency and comfort in verbal communication to senior leadership
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and reports
  • Ability to read, analyze, and apply federal, state, and local statutes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the legal and regulatory community.
  • Ability to write reports and respond to inquiries from parties within the internal and external environments.
  • Works well independently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to self-prioritize, self-manage, and self-determine one’s own workload
  • Manage a project team and direct priority and workload of said team
  • Deals with ambiguity by collaborating with people of all backgrounds and disciplines in order to make the best possible decisions
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment to utilize the skills of multiple people with multiple disciplines to accomplish goals and meet deadlines.

This job will require both office work and field work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment in the office is usually quiet.
