Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Training & Communications Manager will play a pivotal role in enhancing employee development and fostering effective communication within and outside the organization. This hybrid position will encompass both training and professional development initiatives as well as the design and implementation of comprehensive communication programs that align with Pennsy’s strategic objectives.

Job Responsibility including but not limited to:

 

Communications:

Serves as an internal communications resource to the business by:

  • Maintaining internal communications protocol around consistency and formatting, layout and messaging,
  • Partners with the Pennsy Leadership Team to develop, launch and execute communication plans
  • Develop, design, record, script, and edit company videos with focus on safety, recruiting, branding and marketing,
  • Ensuring internal brand and voice is consistent with the Pennsy brand in both digital and printed communication tools.
  • Writes and edits copy for a wide range of purposes: training materials, internal communications, corporate intranets, newsletters, press releases, position papers, executive bios, speeches, articles, posts for internal and external social media, slides for presentations, and similar collaterals
  • Ensures planning and execution of internal communications for the lines of business, including but not limited to organizational changes (incl. organizational notices, change management, etc.)
  • Partners as needed with cross-functional teams to create communication plans for initiatives and events.
  • Partners with leaders and HR on promotions, org-structure and new employee communications content and build.
  • Supports the creation and delivery of weekly internal newsletters and quarterly reviews.
  • Participates, coordinates, and speaks at local and regional events, charities and community outreach programs to increase awareness of the organization.
  • Advises and prepares for corporate public speaking needs and opportunities (incl. social media opportunities)
  • Supports brand image and reputation management and business public speaking opportunities (incl. social media opportunities, trade shows, conferences, panels, etc.)
  • Ensures compliance of all logo/brand applications
  • Facilitates purchase of company branded items to ensure best pricing and brand integrity
  • Coordinates with external vendors as needed for support on deliverables
  • Manages build phases and maintenance of Team Member App (OnePennsy) as well as ensure all content is cross posted as appropriate.
  • Periodically audits app functionality and resources to build trust and ensure and compliance.
  • Creates all relative graphics or media and provide detailed attention to detail and brand adherence to enhance the user experience in the App
  • Provides the Leadership Team with a quarterly overview of relevant topics, meetings, public holidays, and awareness around company happenings.
  • Leads project teams that support the multiple internal platforms that disseminate information deeply and quickly throughout the organization

 

Developmental and Training Requirements:

  • Conducts annual training and development needs assessment, with an increased focus on hourly employees and new hires
  • Coordinates, executes, and manages implementation of CRH Training programs as aligned with business expectations and course guidelines (Frontline Leadership and Human Performance)
  • Develops training and development programs and objectives complete with materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides
  • Identifies best training method (instructor-led, eLearning, simulation, coaching, etc) to ensure effectiveness
  • Implements and facilitate for training programs included, but not limited to, new hire orientation, onboarding, technical skills development, soft skills development, company policies, product training, quality training, safety training, technology training, teambuilding, etc.
  • Designs innovative and transformative learning programs and experiences that drive business results
  • Partners with internal (L&D) and external stakeholders to deliver training, as applicable, and to ensure tracking needs are managed
  • Contacts and utilizes outside vendors and resources as needed based on gaps
  • Maintains a database of all training materials and records completion of all trainings completed across the organization
  • Willingness to become certified as a facilitator for many organizational development programs including but not limited to: Human Performance, DiSC, Frontline Leadership (DDI)
  • Understanding of adult learning theory and research and apply external best practices and innovation within learning and development
  • Leverages/integrates technology to enhance the effectiveness of learning offerings for the learner, as applicable
  • Partners with business leaders, HR and other key stakeholders to drive training and development agendas
  • Conducts follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results
  • Creates innovative, engaging and effective instructional materials with a focus on helping people adopt behavior standards and embrace new processes to complete their daily tasks/responsibilities.

 

Digital Marketing Communications

  • Supports Pennsy with all requested digital, marketing and other deliverables to support all business lines or areas (corporate functions, geographies, etc.). This includes but is not limited to artwork and design, slides, banners, infographics, photos, videos, images, editing, creative writing
  • Provides technical support for all internal digital channels (social media, external websites, intranets, communities, newsletters, etc.)
  • Contributes to the implementation of the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) campaigns on external platforms
  • Manages relationship with external SEO partners and implements suggestions to support optimizations
  • Contributes to development of external website and ensure continuous maintenance of these assets

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or equivalent experience  
  • Proven ability in writing, editing and strategic planning.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in communications or marketing or a similar role
  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience in training and development, facilitation/coaching, project management and/or consulting
  • Understanding of Adobe Creative Suite products, specifically Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator or skill in other graphic design media
  • Familiarity with video production and editing
  • Solid experience in publishing, web and social media tools/platforms
  • Experience in CMS platforms for websites, specifically Google Sites, LumSites and Drupal
  • Experience managing photoshoots and photography/videography assets
  • Demonstrated copywriting and editing skills in English language (AP Stylebook)
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities
  • Comfort with managing multiple, aggressive deadlines
  • Successful project management and decision-making skills

 

 

Additional Requirements

  • Travel up to 25%
