What You Will Do…
As the Safety Coordinator, you will serve as a vital and trusted resource to employees in the field, and provide the implementation, oversight, and leadership of company safety, health, and risk management programs. You’ll spend much of your time in the field to monitor and reinforce safety best practices relating OSHA/MSHA, and commercial driving (DOT/FMCSA). From facilitating incident learning teams and safety meetings, to developing and conducting engaging employee trainings, you’ll play an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built.
Location: This is an in-person position based out of Helena, MT. Local commutes to job sites as needed, which may include up to 10% overnight travel.
This position will support all lines of business (aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix and construction) for Montana Materials & Construction comprised of approximately 150 total employees.
Shift: Primarily work 8 – 12 hours per day, 5 days per week. Nights/weekends and/or longer hours as needed to support project needs.

Minimum Qualifications
- 3 – 5 years’ related field-based safety management experience. Must be within a heavy civil construction environment.
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging and impactful safety trainings.
- Proven engagement and influence skills, with the capacity to build strong relationships and provide meaningful coaching and feedback to a diverse workforce.
- Passion for employee safety and continuous improvement through innovation.
- Working knowledge of PC Programs and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision, a willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed, and travel as needed outside of home office area to project locations.
- A valid driver’s license, current authorization to work in the United States, and ability to pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Safety certifications such as ASP, CHST, OSHA 510/500, Competent Person Trainings, MSHA Blue Card, or related.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Routinely visit jobsites, plants, shops and/or pits to assist field personnel and conduct hazard awareness and correction sessions with operations personnel.
- Ensure all lines of business have the tools necessary to safely perform tasks.
- Ensure risk assessments and/or jobsite evaluations are performed.
- Assist when needed to direct trucks in/out of jobsites to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of products.
- Assist construction and transportation crews with the development and distribution of internal traffic control plans.
- Assist/coach managers/superintendents in conducting their safety meetings and/or project specific safety requirements. Collect and make available safety and health topics for training needs.
- Coordinate and schedule annual safety training, project specific safety trainings and develop/assist/create project specific safety plans and/or reporting as required by the project specifications.
- Support Safety and Environmental with site audits and assist personnel with any corrective actions needed.
- May be called upon to perform a variety of special projects and studies such as coordination of special concrete pours or construction projects, including safety evaluations of projects and project specific safety plans/reporting.
- Administer and maintain company safety programs; ensuring any/all new developments in company related programs and/or technology available are utilized for incident/injury prevention and continually evaluated.
- Ensure that proper incident analysis is conducted for all occurrences, providing recommendations for risk reduction as applicable.
- Organize and maintain support files/records for all incidents/injuries, including but limited to general liability, auto liability, workmen’s compensation, and all other applicable claims.
- Maintain liaison with all affiliated agencies, including MSHA & OSHA.
- Guide managers/superintendents in the use of Coaching Action Plans to correct at risk behaviors and reinforce safe behaviors utilizing proper follow-up/reinforcement strategies.
- Support and implement company related programs, such as Human Performance to foster the philosophies, education, & growth strategies of such programs.
- Coordinate with managers/superintendents to identify Event Learning Team opportunities to promote and drive a Learning Culture.
- Provide direction/technical support for established industrial hygiene practices. i.e. Respiratory Protection Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Silica Awareness Program, etc.
- Work with employees involved in incidents/ claims to ensure treatment accommodations, resolution, and prevention.
- Assist in the implementation of strategic plans to ensure continued success in meeting business objectives within Safety/Health, Safety Leadership, and Leadership education.
- Monitor company safety results & compile reports.
- Develop creative written and verbal communications methods to ensure the distribution of best practices.
- Procure necessary safety equipment and training materials within the economical demands of budgets.
- Regular and timely attendance.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, however, PPE will be provided by our team to keep you safe. Please provide your own pair of safety-toed boots.
