Position Overview

Reporting to the Regional President, the Regional Commercial VP will be responsible for providing commercial performance management and continuous improvement and support according to the needs and opportunities of the region management team. In addition, the Commercial VP will be engaged in annual initiative identification/tracking, capability building activities, acquisition due diligence, commercial strategic integration, and learning/development. The successful candidate will also, support the identification, evaluation and sharing of enterprise innovations and leading practices. It will be important to possess a strong balance of strategic thinking, commercial business financial acumen, influence, and change management skills. Position can be based out of Austin, TX.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Commercial Development - Hold responsibility for influencing, and helping to develop, and deliver the region’s commercial strategy. The VP will also be expected to personally lead one or more initiatives of strategic importance.
  • Performance Management - Manage and report on commercial performance; hold operational companies accountable for achievement of targets and work with operating companies to take corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of business objectives. There will be a need to deliver short term success with the longer-term delivery of stakeholder value.
  • Data-driven Commercial Improvement - Oversee strategic assessment of current state and leverage key indicators to identify opportunities, trends, and potential threats within the various market areas.
  • Utilize market intelligence and develop a go to market strategy that leverages the operational companies’ differentiators, market position, and operational advantages.
  • Overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering an organizational change management strategy that achieves desired outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Identify and influence stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • Stakeholder Management - Lead the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement strategies and plans across the program or portfolio to identify relevant stakeholders, to create mutually supportive working relationships, and to ensure that each stakeholder has an appropriate share of voice at project, program, and portfolio levels.
  • Collaborate with commercial leaders within the region to design and implement procedures and processes that provide our customers with an exceptional buying experience.
  • Demonstrate and promote the use of widely used commercial aids (tools) to optimize performance.
  • Leverage opportunities across all CRH companies to provide customers a full portfolio of solutions that meet their construction material needs. This will include working in concert with the CRH Architectural Products Group, the Infrastructure Products Group and Ash Grove Cement.
  • Project Resource Management - Lead the negotiation and deployment of substantial, complex annual and longer-term program and project resource budgets, providing forecasts and presenting variances with narrative at appropriate review points to ensure effective utilization.
  • Organizational Capability Building - Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging commercial needs
  • business. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Motivate others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal potential. Build capabilities elsewhere in the organization through mentoring and other informal methods.
  • Methods/Processes Development - Lead the development and delivery of commercial processes and methods to achieve outcomes that support the overall region strategy.
  • Leadership and Direction - Communicate the function's strategy and its relationship to the organization's mission, vision, and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals.






  • Bachelor’s degree, Business or related degree or the equivalent in relevant Experience. Five or more (5+) years of commercial management, business, marketing, commercial analytics, or related experience.
  • Experience working with analytical tools and using and implementing commercial based solutions.
  • Ability to understand, document and implement business processes
  • Experience sales, marketing, commercial development


Work Requirements

  • Proven track record of managing commercial improvement initiatives that delivered meaningful and measurable results
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to maintain a wide range of multi-site relationships at all levels of the organization and the ability to effectively define and manage change
  • Demonstrated ability to get positive results through influence, persuasion, leadership, presentations, training, and group facilitation skills Ability to think strategically with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High ethical standards
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Thorough understanding of financial and operational management and the practical organizational dynamics that impact the results of change efforts
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time
