Job Summary


The Plant Engineer will oversee and direct the engineering and QC teams at the manufacturing plant, with overall responsibility for plant improvement projects, product designs, detailing and specification, sales support for technical related issues, and quality support for manufacturing. The Plant Engineer also drives innovation for products and processes to maintain a competitive advantage in the market for our products.


Essential Duties


  • Manage, prioritize and assist on manufacturing process improvements projects.
  • Manage, prioritize and assist on plant improvements projects.
  • Assist the product management team to design and develop new products / improve existing products.
  • Manage distribution of daily workload of engineering request for product certifications, drawings, design information for bids and other technical requests as needed.
  • Manage the QC team and oversee product testing, and product compliance with internal or external specification documents.
  • Review accuracy of product designs and drawings performed by drafting team.
  • Provide technical support for engineering request tickets – specials, shop drawings, certifications, quality control documents, etc.
  • Participate in annual quality control document reviews and internal plant audits.
  • Attend jobsites or customer meetings as needed to support sales in a technical role.
  • Set team goals and expectations, communicate weekly with key internal customers related to project status / backlog.


Required Training or Certifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional PE from a recognize professional association
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mechanical design
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in manufacturing processes
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in project management
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor is an asset
  • Experience with automation is an asset
  • Experience with concrete or polymer concrete is an asset
  • Experience in team management and leadership is an asset
  • Experience in finite element analysis software tools is an asset.


Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands


  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, strength to lift and carry files and products weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be able to work in plant production environment as needed to validate designs, review progress on special projects, perform job safety analysis, and other tasks which will result in some exposure to noise, dust, cold etc.
