Job Summary
As the HR Generalist, you will work supporting team members that help build our communities. The HR Generalist position works with a broad range of human resources activities for Harrison Construction including hiring, onboarding, compliance, training and policy administration.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Serve as the first point of contact for employees; supporting individual needs and HR processess.
- Assists with salaried exempt, salaried non-exempt and hourly hiring process, including composition of job postings, advertisements and descriptions, screening of applications/resumes, interviewing of candidates, offer letter preparation.
- Facilitates onboarding including coordinating screens and conducting new hire orientations. Ensures proper paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate personnel. Maintains electronic database of human resources forms and employment records.
- Assists with administrative responsibilities and special projects, including compilation of data, data analysis and report preparation/generation.
- Responsible for EEO/AAP Compliance process and reporting.
- Assists with required training, including preparation, review and distribution.
- Assists with providing key HR metrics and presentations when necessary.
- Assists with planning and supporting employee engagement activities.
- Assists with development and maintenance of corporate policies and procedures and maintains electronic database.
- Processes employee terminations, including entry, calculations and routing of appropriate paperwork.
- Coordinates and documents all claims and reports relating to specific state workforce development and unemployment offices.
- When applicable, conducts and documents HR related investigations, including, but not limited to, EEO complaints, harassment complaints and general employee issues.
- Responsible for administering and tracking employee requests as they pertain to FMLA, NYS PFL and ADA.
- Coordinates with safety to provide information on workers compensation claims.
- Identify areas to improve processes, efficiency, and organization
- Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
- Two to five years’ experience in human resources required. Experience as HR generalist strongly preferred.
- Experience in a construction environment preferred.
- PHR or SHRM-CP is a plus.
- Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures as well as employment and labor laws.
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs required.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to analyze issues independently.
- Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
- Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
