Job Summary

 

  • Reporting to the Product Design Manager, the Design Compliance Engineer will be part of the Oldcastle/Primex Engineering team that is responsible for the design, modification, customization, and maintenance of Primex’s In-Premise and Outside Plant (OSP) products.
  • The Design Compliance Engineer will work with minimal direction on projects to assist in the research, design, specification, production, and compliance of new and existing products.
  • The Design Compliance Engineer will become familiar with the industry standards that relate to Primex’s In-Premise and OSP product lines and be the subject matter expert within the Engineering team.
  • Working in collaboration with the Product Development team the Design Compliance Engineer will translate the applicable standards’ requirements into practical product specifications and evaluate designs to verify compliance
  • In addition, the Design Compliance Engineer will be responsible for the development and execution of test plans to validate product performance.

 

Job Duties

 

 

  • Perform product and design evaluations to determine and document compliance, risk, mitigation plans, and/or design changes.
  • Develop test plans, create test systems, perform equipment and system level test.
  • Document and present test data to cross functional teams.
  • In collaboration with Quality, oversee product compliance and regulatory matters for products considered or specified.
  • Effectively use SolidWorks CAD program to design solutions-based telecommunications parts and components.
  • Interface with product management, sales, and the customer to assist in the development of product and mold specifications.
  • Review customer design proposals, RFQs, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and production requirements.
  • Provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications that demonstrate how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, and used.
  • Provide support to technical sales and customers as required.
  • Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, and systems.
  • Investigate product failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations.
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate product or mold malfunctions.


Requirements

 

  • Technical Diploma and 5-10 years experience or Bachelor of Engineering and 5 years experience
  • Demonstrated ability to understand regulatory code and achieve product compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to create test plans, perform test, and document/present results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • A pro-active self-sufficient individual with a passion for great product and continuous improvement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:
    • Knowledge of the TELCO, FTTH, and fiber optics industries standards; UL, NEMA, Telcordia, FCC, NEC.
    • Understand quality processes (PPAP, Inspection methods, etc).
    • Plastic injection molded part design
    • Broadband network design and deployment experience
    • Knowledge of Fiber Optics best practices and standards
    • Knowledge of Smart home connectivity; networking switches, WAPs, VoIP appliances and UPSs
