Objective

You will work closely with management and service crews, providing guidance, insight, and consultation regarding WorkSafe BC and other regulations as applicable. You will assist employees in identifying and correcting hazards, establishing best safe practices, and training/coaching employees. You will be responsible for the daily safety and environmental requirements associated with each field service crew and will have the support of regional managers, operation leaders and regional directors to assist and help you grow your career in EHS.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, administer, and implement comprehensive training programs in occupational, industrial and environmental safety.
  • Execute required programs and procedures to ensure plant cleanliness.
  • Respond to accidents, evaluate, and recommend changes where necessary.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements.
  • Establish and maintain complete safety and training records, and prepare reports as required
  • Identify hazards using the Oldcastle Near Miss Potential Hazard program
  • Working with operations and management to establish corrective and preventative actions to eliminate hazards
  • Complete required incident investigations, input analysis, and track corrective and preventative actions
  • Coordinate with Safety Director with Oldcastle to ensure all Environmental, Health and Safety programs are kept updated and management system established to track implementation.
  • Coordinate and ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and aligned with corporate/site program.
  • Provide support to site in developing and implementing new programs and new equipment
  • Enter and maintain safety related data into Oldcastle's software
  • Arrange for, disseminate, and develop specific training as required
  • Create and maintain purchase orders as needed
  • Continually monitor housekeeping and 5S sustainability, with supportive coaching to employees.
  • Maintain working knowledge of new technologies developed by the industry and government regulations
  • Inspect work environment, machinery and equipment in establishments and other work sites conformance with standards
  • Think critically and identify areas for improvement by working collaboratively with area and regional management
  • Observe employees and determine compliance with safety precautions and safety equipment used
  • Ensure monthly inspections and weekly meetings are completed each month
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of permit applications to the proper regulatory agencies
  • Maintain air, water, hazardous waste, and any other permit compliance
  • Attend needed Train the Trainer courses for required areas; crane/rigging, powered industrial vehicle, walking-working surface, and First Aid/CPR/AED.
  • Maintain a Training Matrix for the facility
  • Support the coordination of new hire safety training  
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Development

  • Continuously update knowledge and skills for successful job performance.
  • Participate in external training programs and seek additional educational courses.

Requirements

  •       Occupational Health and Safety Certification (such as CRSP, or BCIT OHS) or other relevant training strongly preferred
  • Experience or education in maintaining WorkSafe BC compliance
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to sell your idea and methods to management and production personnel
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment  
  • Detail-oriented
  • Verbal, written communications and presentations skills
  • Ability to work with other company administrative, production and technical personnel at all levels to achieve plant and corporate goals
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
