Position Overview

In coordination with corporate environmental personnel, administers the plant environmental program in accordance with federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Promotes a positive environmental image of the plant in the community. Uses independent judgment in performing job responsibilities. Works with general policies and objectives. Refers to Environmental and/or Plant Manager when clarification or interpretation of organization policy is needed.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Participates in projects involving environmental issues including contact with regulatory agencies, and accompanies inspectors during inspections.
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental permits and all applicable federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Assists regulatory agencies by providing information and assistance as required.
  • Completes, administers and/or assists in preparation of the following as required
    o Air quality reports including immediate excursion reports
    o Air emission inventories including HAPs
    o Air pollution permit renewals
    o Periodic air emission summary reports including excess emissions, CEM availability and COM excursions
    o Coordinates and supervises stack testing activities and reviews/approves all stack testing reports
    o Discharge monitoring reports and/or other water pollution reports, where applicable
    o Sanitary waste monitoring reports
    o Water consumption reports
    o NPDES permit renewals
    o Solid waste management reports including plant waste and CKD
    o Waste minimization report
    o Compliance with PCMACT regulations – reporting malfunctions
    o Various surveys and questionnaires from internal and external sources
    o Perform audits of data acquisition system and maintain/administer changes as needed
    o Coordinate compliance with Corporate Environmental Policy and ISO 14001 Certification
    o Works in concert with Environmental Manager to provide daily coverage of essential functions.
  • In cooperation with corporate environmental personnel, contracts with training consultants when needed and purchases training media in a cost-effective manner.
  • Coordinates all training efforts and goals with the Environmental Manager and Corporate Environmental Manager.

  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of environmental programs, policies and practices applicable to a cement manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use a personal computer.
  • Work requires strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds, crouching or crawling in restrictive areas, and exposure to extreme temperatures and noises.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience in working with regulatory agencies preferred.

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental engineering or resource management or related field preferred.
