P.J. Keating has an opening for a Quality Control Technician.  The hours and location for this position are variable with weekend work required as needed. 


Position Overview

In this role you will be required to work in a team environment with other co-workers, managers, and state officials. This position is responsible for coordinating the collecting, measuring, and testing of materials for construction projects including hot mix asphalt, soils sampling, core sampling, nuclear density testing, laboratory testing and mix design.


This position reports directly to the Quality Manager.  Our core values are safety, quality and integrity in everything we do.  All P.J. Keating Company. to coordinate, support, and actively promote our safety processes.  You will establish key internal relationships to help ensure safety continues to be embedded in the culture of our Company. 


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):


  • Ensures the safety of crew members and the public on all projects.
  • Aggregate Testing: sampling and physical property determination.
  • HMA Mixture Design: development of design gradation, determination of optimum PGB content using either the Superpave or Marshall Methods.
  • HMA Production Testing: sampling, aggregate gradation, and mixture volumetric property determination.
  • HMA Construction Testing: temperature, layer thickness, density gauge calibration, compacted in-place density, laboratory testing or cores, and sampling.
  • Adjust Production and/or Construction Operations: interpret QC data, recommend appropriate adjustments to production and construction staff to bring processes into compliance with applicable standards, and follow-up on actions taken to ensure anticipated results are obtained.
  • Maintain test result database: input data and provide statistical analysis.
  • Be able to identify various mix and constructions specification requirements and perform laboratory tests in a safe, efficient, and productive manner in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM and/or Owner Agency standards.
  • Ability to make independent decisions as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2+ years of previous construction/quality experience preferred
  • NETTCP HMA Plant and NETTCP Paving Inspector Certifications preferred.



  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate ration and percent and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff, customers, agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interact with sub-contractors, other employees, and different levels of management
