The Estimator reports to the Standard Products Manager and is responsible to provide the customer with detailed estimates for quote requests. He/she is also expected to contribute in a work environment that fosters pride in being part of a winning team.




  • Prepare detailed estimates on varying prospective projects with emphasis on standard product windows, curtain wall, doors and storefront systems.
  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, and other departments, along with our external customers and suppliers to create accurate, competitive and timely bids.
  • Manage general customer inquiries for technical data and information. 
  • Work closely with the other members of the Standard Products Team on problem solving and improving overall efficiencies.
  • Work with vendors and other OBE team members to determine and develop competitive project specific anticipated lead times.
  • Welcome training on products, systems and technology as made available.
  • Produce detailed project turnover files for secured projects with turnover documents that allow for an accurate and timely delivery of finished products.
  • Produce detailed job cost sheets for secured projects.
  • Review incoming quote requests for deficiencies or missing information and correspond with customers as required.
  • Self-review your completed bids against anticipated results prior to review by Standard Products Manager or another team member.
  • Adhere to corporate policies, and guidelines.
  • Accept special assignments as presented with enthusiasm and complete in a timely and professional manner.
  • Frequent contact with customers, associate personnel, other OBE locations, outsource providers and others as required during the performance of work assignments to include, but not limited to, responding to inquires, providing explanations, gathering required information, securing accurate and competitive supplier bids, and resolving customer complaints.


Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • The principles, practices, techniques, and methods of estimating.
  • High level of written and verbal communication.
  • Set priorities to manage multiple projects and customer inquiries concurrently while maintaining deadlines.
  • Work with customers and other OBE team members in a professional manner to achieve a successful bid.
  • Interpret scope of work documents including, but not limited to, purchase orders, specifications, drawings and other documents.
  • Gather and analyze appropriate relevant data to prepare and present concise and complete bids.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Work and communicate effectively with all people contacted in the work.
  • Willing and capable of attending meetings at customer locations, jobsites, vendors, etc. in Canada and the US.
  • Work in a team environment.


Acceptable Experience and Training


Any acceptable combination of education and experience equivalent to an Architectural or Civil Technology diploma / degree and two (2) or more years of successful industry experience, OR and equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities.
