Position: Millwright Apprentice

Reports to: Mechanical Supervisor

Shift: Monday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm

Wage Scale: $42.00 - $45.00 per hour w/ potential for overtime

Summary:

 

The main function of the Apprentice is to successfully complete the apprenticeship in order to become a fully licensed Industrial Millwright. The successful candidate will progress to the appropriate classification upon completion of each subsequent year.

 

What you’ll be contributing: 

 

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.

  • To successfully enroll into and complete the Industrial Millwright program offered through the Ministry of Education and Training.

  • To complete the necessary number of hours of work, and gain the required experience, as mandated in the apprenticeship agreement.

  • To become eligible for the Journeyman position, upon successfully attaining the Millwright’s license.

  • To learn the various responsibilities of the Journeyman’s position which include:

    • Welding / Cutting / Brazing         

    • Pneumatic / Hydraulic maintenance

    • Compressor maintenance            

    • Mobile Crane operation

    • Bearing maintenance     

    • Pump maintenance

    • Machining (lathes, milling machine, grinders)      

    • Vibration analysis

    • Work from service manuals

  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

To succeed in this position, you will need: 

 

  • Highschool graduation or equivalent is required with English, Mathematics, and Science as required subjects.

  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.

  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided.

  • Possess a minimum of Grade 12 education, with English, Mathematics and Science as required subjects.

  • Intermediate computer knowledge

  • Excellent written/oral command of the English language

  • Be registered apprentice 3rd or 4th year of apprenticeship

 

Skill Requirements

 

The apprentice must be able to perform the following functions:

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
 

  • Working outdoors and varied temperatures and weather conditions

  • Effortless mobility through all areas of the plant

  • Working in confined/restricted spaces

  • Working at heights

  • Physical abilities to perform duties

  • Shift work may be required

 

Health and Safety:

 

  • Comply with OHSA and all of its applicable regulations

  • Personal Protective equipment as prescribed

  • Comply with CRH safety rules, policies and procedures

  • Report all incidents and near misses

  • Report all safety hazards

  • Follow Lockout/Tag out procedures

  • Emergency response plan awareness

  • Port security awareness

 

What to expect in a cement environment: 

 

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
