Position Overview  


Mississauga Cement Plant has an exciting opportunity to engage an Optimization Manager. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will play a key role within the management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and continuous improvement of the Optimization function, ensuring optimum process operation and production of top quality product, to meet market requirements and specifications. The ability to lead development and performance within the Optimization team is an essential requirement. As a vital member of the Plant management team, The Optimization Manager will possess the skills and attributes necessary to work closely with the Plant Management Team to collaborate, drive to achieve performance and process improvements, and meet plant objectives.
 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
•    Maintain and further improve the health, safety and environmental aspects within the remit of this role and actively participate with the development of the health and safety culture on site.
•    Monitor and optimize process parameters in terms of performance factor from the quarry to the cement milling.
•    Optimize fuel mix and usage (traditional and waste-derived fuel) in terms of environment, clinker quality and costs.
•    Lead daily reviews to manage the main performance targets.
•    Lead the Energy committee to achieve significant improvements in power consumption.
•    Lead the Technical and Performance Meeting to achieve significant fuel and production throughput improvements.
•    Work closely with the Maintenance and Projects departments to share knowledge and expertise that will help to improve the plant performance.
•    Lead the performance and development of the staff within the department.
•    Liaise with the Quality Manager to support the development of products and to run trials to define appropriate process parameters for their production.
•    Liaise closely with the Environmental Manager to ensure process compliance with certification and support the relationship with the Ministry of Environment 
•    Ensure that the sampling and measuring procedures are respected.
•    As Plant Champion, be responsible for the coordination of the Resource Recovery action plan.
•    Promote the performance of the Plant, motivate personnel and develop their skills to keep abreast of technical developments.
•    Liaise with the certification authorities.
•    Ensure that relevant and appropriate technical surveys are carried out on a regular basis.

 

Qualifications 


Education / Experience
•    Education:  Bachelor's/University Degree
•    Additional Education Preferred: Master's/Graduate Degree
•    Preferred field of study:  Chemical Engineering
•    Other Training/Certifications Required:  NEBOSH                                               
•    Work Experience:  7-10 years, preferably as an Optimisation Manager in a cement plant.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
•    Minimum of ten years process engineering and production experience within cement industry desirable.
•    An in-depth knowledge of processes: quarry, raw meal preparation, burning, air flows combustion, grinding.
•    Good knowledge of laboratory equipment and methods.
•    Good process knowledge of kilns, mills, separators and similar equipment.
•    Ideally have experience in undertaking process audits.
•    Safety awareness and competencies to assure safe working environment for self, the department and the Plant team.
•    Competent IT Skills, MS Office, Google Mail and other technical related systems.

•    This position may require some lifting of objects no heavier than twenty pounds (20lbs.)
•    This is sedentary in nature but may require occasional periods of standing and walking
