Position Overview
This position will be responsible for the overall survey process. Working hours will be typical of the construction industry, 50+ during peak construction season. The ideal candidate needs to be willing to work up to 6 days per week during the peak construction season (summer months). Must be willing to work solo, nights, weekends, and be willing to travel (from time to time).
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Provide support for construction crews and field managers as requested.
- Provide oversight of project survey operations in construction survey
- Prepare geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects
- Set up, adjust, and operate survey equipment including Trimble total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, to measure distances, elevations, and angles
- Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to Trimble hardware, GPS, data collector, etc
- Coordinate survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
- Gather field survey data through the use of conventional and technically advanced methods
- Set up, adjust, and operate survey equipment including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles
- Construction staking for roadways, utilities, and other features, as necessary
- Locating and/or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines
- Perform complex surveying calculations using survey software
- Prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports
- Knowledge and ability to search existing record information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents
- Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of the terrain
- Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to sUAS hardware, GPS, data collector, etc
- Schedule workloads and project survey needs
- Track employee hours and input time weekly for payroll
- Track survey costs and stay within budgets.
- Perform mapping compliance and other related office survey duties.
- Collection and transfer of field data communicated through the proper channels.
- Maintain field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems.
- Customer service: Manage employee situations, respond to employee requests, meet commitments.
- Display strong leadership & teamwork skills
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- 5 years of site modeling experience is preferred
- Previous construction experience preferred
- 3D modeling experience preferred
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
- Maintain professional relationships with managers, field support, office and subcontractors, etc
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA
- Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Ability to read, write and compute basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to use a computer and various softwares.
- Ability to problem solve and describe work-related findings.
- Attention to detail while collecting field data.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
- Ability to work well and efficiently with others
- Ability to use sound and accurate judgment about work processes.

- Safely operate a motor vehicle frequently, such as a pick-up truck, often in rough, uneven conditions. Including mounting and dismounting equipment.

- Must be able to exert 10-20 lbs. constantly to move objects, 25-50 lbs. of force occasionally.

- The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.
