SUMMARY

Performs general labor duties including cleaning barges of coal (or other products) before barge can be loaded with aggregate.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Walking along the barges to get to the area to clean.
  • Climbing a rope or a ladder down into the barge.
  • Using hand brooms or shovels to clean corners and anything the equipment misses.
  • Working in close proximity with a small clean up loader, bobcat and crane (that swings a clam bucket down into the barge to dip out coal and other contaminants).
  • Moving pumps as needed.
  • Assisting with tying off barges.
  • Other duties as assigned.

     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of when and how to set out pumps.
  • Knowledge of securing lines properly.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
