Position Overview

Candidate will be responsible for the leadership and direction of sales, production and strategic growth of the ready-mix/concrete division. Lead and manage company in all aspects of safety, operations, sales, finance, quality control, equipment and critical support functions with primary responsibility for ensuring effective execution of company operational performance and growth strategy. Will manage the primary responsibilities for ensuring effective execution of ready-mix operational performance and growth strategy. Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams. The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Oversee the budget, operating budget and operating costs as well as provide oversight and management on capital expendure recommendations.
  • Build relationships with key customers and understand the key players in the Connecticut market.
  • Work with union employees and representatives to ensure a positive work environment and address grievances that may arise.
  • Provide oversight with dispatch and attend the daily dispatch meetings
  • Participate in weekly sales meetings with collaboration and provide several required reports to accounting department and assist in inventory reconciliation
  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within the Company’s ready-mix operations.
  • Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to operate safely at all times and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environment and other applicable areas are adhered to.
  • Supervise and provide managerial oversight to the entire Ready-Mix team/operations.
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company and regional goals.
  • Generate and manage the operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the Company President.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Build effective teams and develop (direct reports) for future opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of quality control processes and procedures.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors of raw materials to ensure supply and negotiate pricing to maximize profitability.
  • Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process.
  • Work with Company President to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
  • Provide leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
  • Lead team in personal performance management, training and development, succession planning and effective recruiting and hiring.
  • Display strong leadership & teamwork skills with a natural ability to provide mentorship and coaching.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related field and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License (DL) and satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Ten (10) years in a management role within the contruction industry specifically in concrete, aggregates, asphalt, construction and/or equipment is preferred
  • Prior union experience is preferred

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Maintain professional relationships with customers, managers, field support, office and subcontractors, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

  • Ability to prepare annual budgets and work with and/or administer budget; ability to answer questions and present financial data to Company President, Regional President and others.
  • Knowledge and understanding of functional areas within the read-mix and sales operations.
  • Ability to work with peers and other members of management team from all lines of business to achieve progress towards mutual goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and have strong listening, presenting skills and able to give and receive feedback.

  • Must be available as needed during non-traditional work hours.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and in operational areas may be moderate.
  • The position may require work outside of normal business hours.
  • Tempo is fast-paced with deadlines.
