Primary Responsibilities

 

  • This skilled position involves the safe and efficient training of all new hires in the operation of tri-axle, lowbed, tack and snorkel trucks and managing the day to day issues with drivers.
  • All Tilcon Connecticut employees are expected to partner with associates and management of Tilcon Connecticut Inc. to coordinate, support, and actively promote our safety process.
  • The Transportation Manager will comply with mandatory safety requirements and other functions of the team.

 

Principle Accountabilities 

 

Job Duties

  • Manage day to day activities with all internal drivers and hired haulers
  • Daily scheduling and managing of lowbed moves
  • Coordinate daily schedule with dispatch
  • Review job site conditions in partnership with Line of Business managers and external customers
  • Coordinate/manage and facilitate safety meetings
  • Interface with key business partners for routine/emergency truck repairs
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Delegate responsibilities & expect accountability
  • Encourage constructive feedback, engagement, inclusion and diversity at all levels
  • Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships
  • Foster a culture that values critical thinking and problem solving
  • Coordinate random drug testing with dispatch
  • Understanding union contracts and continuing to build a positive partnership

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

 

  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Thorough operational knowledge of trucks and related equipment to be operated.
  • Previous or current State Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL)
  • Must be in use of MS Office, MS Excel, Word and ideally Access or similar database to basic level internet and email.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style.
  • Ability and willingness to give and receive honest, balanced feedback
  • Ability to act in a professional manner with customers, and represent Tilcon in a character that inspires trust.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the communication system and use the truck tracking system correctly.
  • Maintain employee work schedule including assignments, job rotation, training, vacation/PTO.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical.

 

Personal Protective Equipment

 

  • Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA, MSHA, and state agencies. 
  • Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position:  Hardhat, safety glasses, face shield, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, respirator, air monitor, reflective safety vest, and hearing protection.
