Primary Responsibilities:


Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of multiple asphalt sites, including but not limited to hot mix asphalt plants and railroad car unloading facilities.  This includes customer service, supervision of personnel, quality assurance and environmental compliance.

Principle Accountabilities:



  • Ensure that company safety procedures and policies are adhered to by all plant personnel;
  • Work with the safety department to coordinate the implementation of new initiatives and training;
  • Aid in the investigation of safety related incident and see that all incidents are properly documented and reported;
  • Assure that a safe work environment is maintained at all sites including but not limited to proper housekeeping;
  • Monitor and appropriately respond to THINK forms.


Customer Service:


  • Ensure that all customers are provided with a quality product in a timely, courteous manner;
  • Coordinate loading time and silo usage for our high volume customers.


Personnel Supervision:


  • Ensure that personnel report for work on time at their appropriate locations;
  • Submit daily time sheets promptly each morning;
  • Assure that employees properly utilize their time at work;
  • Report any out-of-scope issues.




  • Ensure that daily, weekly and monthly maintenance is performed;
  • Check maintenance logs regularly to monitor performance;
  • See that items requiring attention are repaired promptly;
  • Maintain an adequate spare parts inventory at all locations;
  •  Be familiar with plant components and their condition;
  • Monitor plant “Daily Operating Reports”.


Quality Assurance:


  • Monitor materials at the various sites to maintain quality stockpiles;
  • Monitor loaders and trucks to reduce issues related to material handling;
  • Check on HMA testing to ensure that on-specification, quality material is being shipped;
  • Communicate with QC personnel in order to monitor test results.




  • Monitor dust control systems to see that they are operating properly.
  • Make sure that containment areas are kept broom clean and orderly.         
  • Check SPCC and SWPP plans to ensure that monthly and quarterly checks are performed and documented.
  • Be knowledgeable of plant operating permits and ensure that plants are in compliance.
  • Adhere to Tilcon’s Best Management plan.




To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Minimum of five years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of Hot Mix Asphalt plants.
  • Mechanical skills are an essential requirement
  • Troubleshooting abilities
  • Flexible schedule.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to lead, manage and develop employees effectively.


Personal Protective Equipment: 


Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA, MSHA, and state agencies.  Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position:  Hardhat, safety glasses, face shield, reinforced toed shoes, hand protection, respirator, air monitor, reflective safety vest, and hearing protection.
