Position Overview
Tilcon Connecticut Inc. is seeking a Sr. Accountant to perform accounting responsibilities associated with general ledger, accounts payable and tax activities. Uses independent judgment on a regular basis in performing job duties. Works under general supervision on responsibilities having specified standard policies and procedures. Refers all questions to supervisor.
Primary Responsibilites
- Assist with monthly & quarterly financial close process - journal entries, variance analysis, & post-close financial reporting.
- Inventory accounting to include product setups, bill of materials creation and maintenance, annual product costing updates, capping analysis, physical inventory counts, and associated variance analysis.
- Maintains itemized file of specialized accounts for year-end audit purposes. Assists in preparing year-end audits as needed.
- Reconciles monthly operations bank account statement & confirms the bank's reconciliation.
- Codes invoices with appropriate general ledger codes and enters information in the computer system.
- Reviews all checks and invoices, obtains approval and mails to appropriate payee.
- Prepares monthly sales tax return for state.
- Prepares quarterly federal fuel tax returns (IFTA).
- Prepare account reconciliations and allocations monthly while maintaining balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assists with site audits, and controls/SOX compliance testing.
- Manage various local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and filings.
- Support the Controller on new accounting policies and annual audits.
- Performs other job related responsibilities as needed.
Education/Experience
- BS or BA in Accounting is required
- 3 to 5+ years of accounting experience
Work Requirements
- Individual must possess a working knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Practices and Procedures on manual and automated systems including P&L’s and relevant balance sheet accounts.
- Must demonstrate strong numerical skills and the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
- Attention to detail and presentation of the work product to a high standard is required.

- Be dependable/reliable and follow through on commitments, producing timely work and pitching in to get the job completed with quality and precision.
- Be attentive to detail and monitoring adherence to company standards.
- Demonstrate a high proficiency with MS Excel, Windows and Word.
- Understand and perform a variety of accounting tasks.
- Assist with development, implementation, and documentation of internal controls.
