OMNI Engineering, a CRH company, started its business in 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska.  OMNI is involved in heavy highway construction as well as private and commercial site construction.  Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots.  Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.

  

Position Overview

The Estimator position is responsible for using a combination of past experiences and project specifications to accurately project the amount of materials, equipment, and man hours that must be utilized to complete a given project.  Based upon these calculations, they create a project budget that is then presented to Management.  All necessary details must meet not only legal, but also company policies and guidelines.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Prepare estimates, proposals, sealed bids, and subcontracts.
  • Travel to potential sites to evaluate existing conditions and meet with site owners and/or owner’s representatives.
  • Bid on a competitive basis and submit quotes to Prime Contractor and/or Owners.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with owner, contractors, and engineers.
  • Able to meet key deadlines and prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Develop and negotiate change orders as needed.
  • Effectively manage the needs Omni Engineering, the project, and the customer in the best possible manner.
  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.  Report any problems to the Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university and five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Two (2) to Five (5) years’ experience in heavy civil / highway construction, estimating and bidding preferred. 

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook, and database software.  Must be able to utilize internet and communicate effectively.  Experience with Bid2Win preferred. 
  • Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Must display a willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers to manipulate/handle objects.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch, lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.
  • Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
  • Able to utilize office equipment including a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.

 

Work Environment

While performing duties of this position, the environment is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
