Position Overview

The sales manager interacts and establishes rapport with current and prospective customers through the quoting, sale, delivery, and collections of ready-mix concrete. Manages personnel, equipment and customer accounts with the sales, service, and quality control departments of Ready Mixed Concrete Co. by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Meets with key clients, assisting sales representatives with maintaining relationships and negotiating and securing sales.
  • Analyzes sales statistics to formulate policy in promoting sales.
  • Represents company at trade association meetings to promote products.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and conducts sales presentations to key clients in coordination with sales representatives.
  • Provides direction and interacts with LRC estimators to review and adjust customer pricing and prepare project specific quotes for concrete and related materials.
  • Tracks quoted projects and follows up on the sale of materials.
  • Assist and provide Quality Control Manager with required information for the proper preparation of concrete and material certifications for specific projects.
  • Assist sales staff in the performance of account management and review of Monthly Sales reporting.
  • Coordinates communication between sales department and other sales related units; Quality Control, Service, Operations, Safety, Accounting.
  • Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion including review and recommendations regarding dormant customer status.
  • Monitors and evaluates the activities and products of the competition.
  • Develop and nurture a “Safety Culture” within Ready Mixed Concrete Co.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies for existing and new product lines.
  • Manages difficult or emotional customer and employee situations; responds promptly to customer needs or complaints; meets commitments in a timely manner.
  • Assists with business and product marketing including interaction with internal government relations personnel and local and State officials.
  • Actively engage in company committees, state associations and other committees as approved by your supervisor.
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees in the sales department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising and coaching performance; rewarding and disciplining behavior; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and/or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • ACI and IDOT certification as directed or the ability to obtain within a reasonable time.

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person.
  • Able to utilize a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently walk and sit as well as occasionally required to stand and reach.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways and access elevated platforms.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
