Summary: 

The Commercial AFR (Alternative Fuel and Raw Materials) Market Manager executes the Alternative Fuels and Materials strategy and operational roadmap plants and develops local relationships with industrial and municipal waste generators and processors to secure waste streams that can be processed into alternative fuels or materials. This position contributes to building a local environmental services business that will provide landfill diversion services to the waste generators and also will lower the cost of fuels and materials cement plants, reduce CO2 footprint, and economically contribute to the overall profitability of AGC. The position works closely with MTS, plant personnel, procurement organization, regional logistics team, and AFR subject matter experts. The Commercial AFR (Alternative Fuel and Raw Materials) Market Manager will be influencing $1-2m in Gross Value Added (GAV) benefit (economic benefit to AGC), with projected growth to $5-8m within the next 3-4 years.

  

What you’ll be contributing: 

 

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines. 
  • Develops and continuously evolves a strategic regional plan for each cement plant focused on increasing the usage of industrial and municipal waste by-products as alternatives for traditional fuels and materials to optimize cash costs at AGC cement plants and corporate contribution to landfill diversion and GHG reduction.
  • Promotes the mindset of “Tell me what waste is available; my AFR network will find a way to use it”
  • Builds strategic relationships with key industrial and municipal waste generators.
  • Drives the importance of AFR to stay in business in an emerging environment where stakeholders (public, NGOs) view cement plants primarily as GHG emitters and not partners in waste diversion.
  • Promotes co-processing of waste with key stakeholders
  • Develops and executes a strategy to enter into pre-processing operations to increase AGC’s AFR business offering and relevance to local waste generators and improve economic value-add
  • Continuously reviews the local market to identify and build relationships with new waste generators and waste processors
  • Generates new waste stream opportunities, works closely with Overland Park Technical Services Lab to profile new streams and develop new raw material mix designs
  • Works closely and collaboratively with AFR Task Force leaders and team members to incorporate commercial best practices
  • Track and report all relevant commercial AFR KPIs
  • Actively drive maximization of AFR KPIs (AF%, $/mmBTU, $ Gross Value Added)
  • Drives the value of waste co-processing activities in the market
  • Conducts periodic pricing reviews and competitive benchmarks
  • Drives a continuous increase in the $ GAV metric (Gross Value Added $from the usage of alternative fuels and materials at the plant).
  • Promotes strong commercial practices to maximize tip fees for waste streams received
  • Participates in the AFR budget process related to the plant’s AFR usage, supports the plant budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Supports the development of an Americas Cement AFR development and CAPEX investment plan
  • Develops short, medium, and long-term industrial CAPEX investment plans to reach Americas Cement AFR ambitions
  • Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.  

To succeed in this position, you will need: 

 

  • Minimum  4 Year/ Bachelor's Degree in engineering, finance, or other related fields 
  • Graduate Degree in Master of Business Administration is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sales or business development 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the material recycling operations, waste-to-energy, or CleanTech industry
  • General knowledge of or experience in industrial manufacturing operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Spanish and/or French is an asset)
  • Proficient in the use of computers, Excel, SAP, PowerPoint,and  Word
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Proactively approaches responsibilities
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents
  • Ability to work in a transversal organization and as part of a network

 
What to expect in a cement environment:  

 

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
