Position Summary


Leads all electrical engineering (maintenance, reliability, projects) to support the Ash Grove Cement (AGC) operations (all plants and terminals), ensuring all electrical and electronic equipment is fit for purpose to meet the needs of operations, satisfying best practice standards and being fully compliant with all statutory requirements. Works alongside electrical plant teams to develop robust medium and long-term plans for electrical infrastructure. Assesses electrical maintenance budget and major overhaul plans to ensure they are well-considered. Works in unison with the Director of Maintenance and Reliability to develop the electrical maintenance and reliability strategy to assist the operations in making the best use of their electrical resources (in-house, contractor and specialist). Leads electrical initiatives, particularly in electrical safety. 
Directly supervises Corporate Reliability Engineer and collaborates with many maintenance and reliability personnel throughout AGC. Works closely with VP Manufacturing Services and keeps same informed on all electrical issues. The jobholder must display self-motivation and attention to detail whilst being able to work constructively with operational personnel. Must possess a very high level of technical proficiency in all aspects of electrical/electronic engineering combined with a good understanding of automation and control systems.       


Essential Functions


  • Oversee medium and long-term electrical engineering infrastructure plans by working with head electrical personnel for plants, maintenance managers, and Group Technical Services (GTS). Expected to be a highly-trusted technical authority on all aspects of electrical/electronic equipment from high voltage supply, medium voltage switching equipment, drives and VFDs, gas analysis equipment, calibration devices, measurement equipment, PLCs etc. 
  • Review and evaluate all electrical/electronic/automation Capex requests and evaluate the electrical portions of Opex Maintenance budgets, particularly Major Overhaul budgets, in detail.  
  • Contribute proactively to the maintenance task force teams on electrical issues. Promote a culture of open and transparent sharing of electrical maintenance issues.    
  • Be a leader in promoting safe electrical working practices and how all electrical workers (both in-house and contractor) should be informed on these practices continually.    
  • Ensure that plant teams invest time and resources in structured major overhaul planning, including larger electrical repairs through to the detail of the electrical preventive maintenance work.    
  • Develop effective training support for operational electrical maintenance and reliability teams.   
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal AGC engineering resources, Group Technical Services, and outside resources where appropriate to the aims above. Keep VP Manufacturing Services briefed on all relevant electrical issues.  
  • Work closely with the Director of Maintenance and Reliability on all aspects of electrical maintenance and reliability work, particularly in making good use of the computerized maintenance management system.  
  • Performs other appropriate functions and duties as required.   




  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering discipline.


Work Experience


  • 10 or more years' experience in cement industry, or similar process industry, with line management experience and/or consulting experience across multiple locations in electrical maintenance and reliability.  Project, commissioning or optimization experience beneficial.  Experience in leading people regarding the improvement of safety culture is necessary.

Physical demands/Work environment


  • Frequently sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing driving, and using tools such as computer, phone and calculator.
  • Occasionally bending crouching, climbing stairs, walking on rough or uneven surfaces and working at high elevations.
  • Travel required up to 75%
