Summary:

 

Ash Grove Cement is looking for a Sustainability & Innovation Project lead at the Technical Center in Overland Park, KS.  The Ash Grove Technical Center supports our business to achieve commitments toward the 2050 carbon neutrality goals. One of the biggest changes for the cement industry is to reduce its carbon footprint and become a leader in the development of products, processes, and technologies in the sustainability and innovation environment. The Sustainability & Innovation Project lead has the role of identifying applicable carbon capture, utilization& storage (CCUS) technologies, and clinker factor reduction tools to match the strategic needs of Ash Grove Cement, transforming them into technical readiness and market acceptance level at our manufacturing facilities and markets within AGC and CRH networks.  The position is of critical relevance to ensure available project funding and resources are properly managed in the context of Sustainability and innovation. A part of the work will also be related to the management of information. Exposure and proper handling of confidential information which may have a competitive or intellectual property value to the company or its customers is expected.  The person will report to the Technical Center Director.
 

What you’ll be contributing:

 

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Define and execute sustainability and innovation projects assigned by management or identified through outreach efforts
  • Propose, and manage resources allocated for the implementation of projects
  • Prioritize and organize the team’s research and innovation activities
  • Take ownership on project milestone benchmarking, to allow project team to efficiently and effectively deliver multiple goals and meet deadlines
  • Organize and lead project meetings and keep track of decisions, action plan made during those meetings
  • Report on a monthly basis the status of projects, new technologies, products or market needs encountered during internal or external meetings. Complete risk analysis and mitigation plan based on technical, market and policy readiness level indicators. Propose timetable, actions, responsibilities and resources needed for additional project steps
  • Take the ownership to complete Ash Grove clinker factor reduction, IP/IT product development projects through lab product development and industrial trials, with accurate results and sound technical interpretations
  • Travel for training/support to various Ash Grove Cement locations, and interact with internal/external customers, university researchers, and innovators (25%-30% travel)
  • Other duties as assigned

 

To succeed in this position, you will need:

 

  • The candidate should hold a master's or higher degree in technical, engineering or relevant years of work experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in research & development or project delivery, with a demonstrated track record within corporate or startup environment
  • Working knowledge of cement manufacturing and concrete production, admixture technologies required

  • Demonstrated experience in new products or services development in the technical field, preferably in cement/concrete materials, industrial processes
  • Proven experience of people coordination and network creation
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and independent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask. Handles non-routine, challenging work at a short notice, and delivers satisfying results dependably
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Capable of simultaneously managing multiple technical projects with a direct technical contribution.
  • Understanding of reporting requirements, tools, and processes
  • Decision-making within team objectives
  • A self-starter who can effectively work within a fast-moving and innovation-driven team culture, committed to growing within and outside the manufacturing & technical services team
