In this role, you’ll operate the asphalt plant to ensure proper supply of materials to our internal and external customers, and other assigned areas, playing an integral part as we stand together to reinvent the way our world is built.

Wage: $60.46 - $61.93 DOE w/ potential for overtime 

 

Note: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Starting wage will be based on hours worked and Union Status under the applicable CBA. Wages including overtime wages may also be specified by applicable CBA, Davis-Bacon, Prevailed, or other federal, state, or local contracts. (302/612 Union Scale).

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):

  • Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.
  • Travel to and from various locations.
  • Ensure necessary supply of materials for asphalt plant is available.
  • Load plant bins with materials.
  • Fuel, oil, grease and check other necessary plant parts to ensure proper function of equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of plant premises.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair on equipment as assigned.
  • Ensure material flow during cold weather.
  • May operate other equipment such as skid-steer, water truck, excavators, etc. as needed if properly trained.
  • Assist  crew including shoveling materials and daily plant operations.
  • Promptly communicate with paving crew on any flaws in material.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Other tasks and duties assigned to meet business needs.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

 

Oiler Duties:

  • Greases moving parts on trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Checks and add fluids in trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Drives and operates a fuel truck to add fuel to the various trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Performs oil changes on trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Inspect belts and other parts on trucks and heavy equipment for wear and/or repair concerns.
  • Performs other servicing and maintenance to trucks and equipment as required, including changing out filters, adding air to tires, etc.
  • Drives and operates a service truck. Replenishes fluid and oil containers on the service truck.

 

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Join Local 302/612 Operating Engineers Union
  • One to two years ’ asphalt plant operation experience and heavy equipment, such as loaders, dozers, excavators, skid-steers, etc.
  • Valid drivers’ license.
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment-controlled substance testing.
  • Must have a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement and a current medical card.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
  • Demonstrates good performance, safety and attendance.
  • Demonstrates proper lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling techniques.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays.
  • Demonstrates ability to work and communicate well with Supervisors, Service Technicians, Truck Drivers, Heavy Equipment Operators, and other employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.          
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Proper PPE will be provided by our team, but please bring your own pair of steel toed boots.
  • Primarily work 10-16 hours per day 5-7 days per week during the peak season, occasional night work.
