Overview and Impact
The Safety Director will handle all health and safety compliance efforts as well as maintain and establish processes and procedures to ensure the safety of our personnel and the environment. This position will be responsible for identifying training needs and developing training programs for employees. In addition they will work with business leaders and other key stakeholders to identify skill- and capability-building aligned with the company’s strategy.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Business Partner
- Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) within the region.
- Work alongside operation leaders to create and sustain a culture that values safety and environmental stewardship.
- Ensures appropriate root cause analysis and corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist.
- Conducts or directs facility inspections to identify potentially hazardous conditions and to ensure facility and procedural compliance with applicable regulations; recommends/implements appropriate corrective actions.
- Represents sites during regulatory inspections and during routine periodic corporate audits. Prepares and executes action plan to close audit findings.
- Maintains all required records applicable to safety, health and environmental compliance, up to but not limited to OSHA 300 Logs, MSHA specific standards, Incident Root Cause Investigations, SDS's, and chemical inventory.
- Conducts annual training and development needs assessment, with an increased focus on hourly employees and new hires.
- Create training strategies, initiatives, and materials and leads the development, execution, and measurement of skill- and capability-building programs.
- Develop a sustainable business model that supports cross-training for front-line employees.
- Contact and utilize outside vendors and resources as needed based on gaps.
- Maintain a database of all training materials.
- Partner with business leaders, HR and other key stakeholders to drive training and development agendas.
- Leader
- Manages the safety team for multiple facilities.
- Serves as point of contact and subject matter expert for emergency personnel.
- Leads job hazard evaluations to assess employee health and safety risks and develop appropriate improvement plans.
- Acts as liaison with CRH and drives all CRH Safety initiatives throughout the organization.
- Ensure that all CRH Life Saving Rules are followed.
- Developer of Talent
- Support the recruitment, development and diversity of current and future talent.
- Promote ongoing coaching and feedback. Enhance and broaden skills.
- Develop and maintain an environment that encourages excellence, accountability, communication, as well as personal development and growth, for all Safety employees
- Additional duties as requested by management.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Required Education/Experience/Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E) from a four-year college or university (safety related focus preferred) with 8+ years of practical work experience.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in company policies, including, but not limited to wearing PPE.
- Travel to various work sites and out of state travel is required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office and the ability to rapidly learn different software applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to changing schedules and projects.
- Strong ability to research data to support regulatory requirements.
- Models professional and courteous attitude and behavior to all, supporting the company’s mission and objectives.
- Ability to interact with vendors, plant employees and different levels of management.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors as needed.
Preferred Education/Experience/Knowledge
- OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926 and MSHA regulation knowledge preferred
- Safety field and facilitation experience preferred
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
- High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications.

This job will require both office work and field work.
