Position Overview

In this role, you’ll help with the repair and maintenance of construction and mechanical equipment such as trucks, trailers, batch plants, paving machines, bulldozers, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, loaders and other equipment. The worker may work at ground level or in a service pit, providing mechanical maintenance and inspection to company vehicles.

Wage: $20-$25/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Perform routine vehicles maintenance (change oil and filter, lubrication, coolant and fuel).
  • Services vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, trucks, shop, and non-mobile equipment on a company-wide basis. 
  • Analyzes malfunctions and report need for further diagnostics or repair to mechanics.
  • Orders parts and supplies, maintains purchase orders and invoices, create work orders, schedule PM’s, and document needed repairs. Operates computer for job functions.
  • Operate and inspect vehicles and equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hand tools.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
  • Perform general cleaning of work areas and maintenance areas.
  • Assist other maintenance department staff in performing the duties necessary to assure the efficiency of operations of vehicles.
  • Perform and maintain fluid analysis program.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
  • Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.
  • Open the vehicle hood and check all fluid levels, visually inspect belts and hoses for signs of wear, and inspect for other repairs that may be required.
  • Provide service to the radiator by draining, replacing, and/or replenishing coolant, use grease guns to lubricate the vehicle’s fittings/joints, and visually inspect the undercarriages of the vehicles for any problems.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.

 

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen. 
  • Safety sensitive: “Per RCW 49.44.240 this position has been identified by the employer as safety sensitive and will be subject to an employer-required pre-employment drug screening that includes testing for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.”
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.  

 

Preferred Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, Cat ET, Cummins Insite and Detroit programs.
  • CDL preferred but not required. 
  • 6 months of experience in automotive, heavy equipment or trade school is preferred.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
