Position Overview

 

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of various types of construction equipment including but not limited to Asphalt Pavers, Asphalt Screed, Asphalt Rollers, Backhoe and Shuttle Buggy/Asphalt Material Transfer Vehicle  

   

Safety Expectations  

   

  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.   
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings. Review safety and risk assessment, daily production goals and crew member responsibilities.  
  • Perform proper Vehicle Condition Reports (VCR) and coordinate necessary repairs with foreman.  
  • Utilize Safety best practices such as Be A Spotter get a Spotter, G.O.A.L, See Stop Do, T.R.A.C.K, Feet Not Inches, 3 Points of Contact  
  • Identify and Correct Slip, Trip and Fall Hazards specifically on the screed, near ladders and cat walks.  
  • Identify, Locate, Mark, and Communicate overhead hazard with others on the crew and truck drivers.  
  • Locate, identify, and mark project specific hazards.  
  • Participate in and ensure crew member participation in TYFOOM.  
  • Understand procedures in the event of an incident.  
  • Conduct documented task training prior to equipment use.  

  

  

  Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)  

   

  • Safely operate and maintain various types of asphalt paving equipment as needed.  
  • Provide a quality product, meeting required thickness, compaction, smoothness, drainage, and quality workmanship. Standards that make us the Preferred source in asphalt paving.  
  • Supervising and coordinating crew activities, reviewing production schedules, and estimating work requirements to meet or enhance the estimate.  
  • Inspect day’s work for Quality (NO Birdbaths, Rock Pockets, Roller Marks), Project drains properly, Joints are tight.  
  • Clean up from days operations, Gutters are clear of debris, sidewalks are clear of debris, spoil piles cleaned up.  
  • Train and mentor new crew members. Participate in 30-60-90 training program.  
  • May Laborer at various job sites as needed.  May perform physical tasks involved with laying pipe and utility lines, and/or tasks involved with road construction and laying asphalt, etc.  
  • Prepare Equipment for Transportation (Garbage Removal, Debris Removed from Machine, Secure Loose Items, secure any Lumber on Equipment, Remove Balloon Lights, Remove Beam’s, remove any GPS/Auto Equipment and Secure in Foreman’s Truck, ensure all tie down devices are in good working order)  
  • Stage Equipment in a safe and easily accessible area for transport vehicles.   
  • Ability to workday and night shifts as necessary.  
  • Conduct daily operations with a positive, friendly attitude. Show strong customer service, Customer Centric.  
  • Treat others on site with respect and professionalism.

Education/Experience  

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.  

   

Work Requirements  

  • Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred.  

   

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.  

   

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations  

  • Valid Driver’s License (Reliable Transportation)
