Position Overview

 

This is a skilled position as an experienced Estimator/Sales involving the preparation of quantity estimates using material, labor and overhead costs and management of projects that are awarded to the company. The Sales Manager is charged with assembling and leading a team to identify and capitalize on opportunities while providing an excellent customer experience.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documents to prepare time, material, equipment, production and labor estimates.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates for planning purposes and detailed estimates based on final plans and specifications.
  • Consult with clients, vendors and others to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Maintain current and accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors through direct contact and written materials.
  • Prepare bid packages, estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids for projects of any size and complexity.
  • Physically measure, assess the condition, and formalize estimates for commercial projects.
  • Participate in the bidding process.
  • Implements and manages a system that generates leads through professional sales tactics and networking within the engineering and contractor community.
  • Develops and implements strategic sales plans to accommodate sales goals.
  • Reviews market analytics to determine customer needs, market-based pricing, and discounts.
  • Responds to customer’s needs in a focused and service-oriented manner, quickly addressing issues to provide positive results, demonstrating knowledge of our customer’s business needs and expectations, effectively applying knowledge and skills to problem-solve individual circumstances.
  • Implements and manages systems that provide complete and accurate quotes that are consistently formatted and provided within a timely manner, tailored to the customer’s project needs.
  • Provides market-based pricing based upon O.S.R. and Est. feedback, meticulously tracking won/lost jobs and having a general pulse on the marketplace.  Maintain and update in real time, market-based price list for O.S.R.’s and Estimators to work from.  Ensures each team manages their time appropriately.
  • Reviews sales team quotes in excess determined amounts with A.C.D to ensure pricing consistency.
  • Provides professional and timely communication with internal departments to ensure seam-less customer service support (engineering, purchasing, production, delivery, accounting).
  • Routinely completes ride along with O.S.R.’s for customer and jobsites visits to strengthen relationships, gather market information, learn of new opportunities, and show Oldcastle’s value as a business partner.
  • Develop and maintain a strong base of product knowledge and explores potential new product opportunities.

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or other related field.  
  • Five years construction estimating experience is preferred; or an equivalent of education and experience will be accepted.
  • Preferred experience - Previous commercial/residential material sales experience

 

Work Requirements

 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. .
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
