PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Direct, manage and coordinate logistics and transportation functions for a regional aggregate, RMC and HMA company. Analyze data, manager and measure logistics processes including shipping and carrier activity. Identify and predicting exceptional or high-cost deviations and making procedural decisions to take advantage of increased opportunity for efficiency or correct inefficiencies within the logistics systems. The Dispatch Coordinator is expected to develop logistics strategies that balance cost constraints with the need for outstanding service. The Dispatch Coordinator must be decisive and possess the ability to choose an alternative course of action when necessary while communicating with the production staff. This position requires a high level of analytical/critical thinking, forecasting, and reporting, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work in MS Excel, MS Word, and Viewpoint. Maintain professional and prudent communications both internally and externally working in a team environment with a diverse group of associates, customers, and suppliers. This position will report directly to the Logistics Manager of Kentucky Hauling.

POSITION REQUIRMENTS: 

  • Safety: Ensure that equipment and processes meet or exceed company guidelines and DOT regulations. Pursue a culture of safety that is best in class. Actively engage with the workforce to reinforce safe behaviors.
  • Management Scope: KHI Logistics for fleet of owned trucks and owner/operator trucks.
  • Operational Strategy: Develops an operational strategy for the movement of Aggregates and HMA within the market area: identify operational deficiencies and areas of opportunity based on systematic processes. Ensure compliance with all state and federal DOT regulations.
  • Operational Analysis: Ensures that key operational data is reviewed and analyzed continuously. Track progress against actions and targets/KPIs. Investigate variances and ensure corrective actions are established. Analyze or interpret logistics data involving service, forecasting.
  • HR/People Development: Communicate company initiatives and pursue best practices. Identify underperformance and establishes corrective action. Develop and motivate staff, train as required.
  • Ability to learn all dispatching systems, training as necessary for dispatchers as well as ability to back up dispatchers as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-2 years minimum supervisory or management experience in the transportation industry.
  • 1 year experience in dispatch operations.
  • GED or equivalent in related experience, training and education;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • A solid understanding of industry regulations.
  • Strong negotiation skills, analytical and problem solving ability;
  • Good time management skills and the ability to multi-task;
  • Strong organizational, communication and people skills;
  • Must possess superior problem solving skills; ability to identify and investigate potential problems with respect all safety issues;
  • Individual must possess strong computer skills and be proficient with Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential;
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses;
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation;
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution;
  • Experience in formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures;
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data;
  • Knowledge of communication and public relation techniques;
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations;
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels;
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel;
  • Experience in a construction environment preferred;
  • Must be 18 years in age or older;
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Able to safely drive a vehicle;
  • Regular required attendance and reporting ready to begin work at the designated start time;
