PRIMARY FUNCTION:

We are seeking a qualified, safety minded, highly motivated individual to work as an intern who will gain an overall understanding of the major divisions of Hinkle Contracting Company, so that the intern can eventually be considered for a full-time position within Hinkle Contracting Company. The selected candidate will be involved with and learn about various aspects of Hinkle Contracting Company. The focus of this intern will be Safety.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Requirements

• Support the safety goals and processes of the company;
• DOT, MSHA and OSHA training and regulations;
• Participate in and assists with the incident investigation process;
• Learn about Samsara monitoring and how it impacts our drivers and their ability to drive safely and eliminate incidents;
• Organize and conduct periodic safety observations, audits, and inspections;
• Assist with and audit the process of developing and maintaining Job Hazard Analysis documents for each location;
• Assist management with worker’s compensation claims;
• Assist with Safety Leadership Team and Central Safety Committee;
• Spend time at our aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mix plants to learn the fundamentals of production and how safety impacts each line of business;
• Understand compliance requirements for our operations to meet federal and state regulations including MSHA and OSHA etc.;
• Build relationships with key stakeholders at Hinkle Contracting Company;
• Show a commitment to be visible and active in operations with your fellow employees;
• Learn how to identify and resolve safety, personnel, and equipment/operational problems, in a timely and effective manner;
• In additional to learning these aspects, the selected candidate may be required to perform general laboring duties. This position will be based in Lexington, KY; but travel may be required throughout the State depending on the location of our jobs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ideal candidate must be currently enrolled in a college degree program and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better.
• Typically apply in your Sophomore, Junior or Senior year.
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organization levels, including senior management;
• Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures;
• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices;
• Excellent communication skills and professional personal presentation;
• Organizing; planning, and customer service orientation;
• Great attention to detail and stress tolerance; and
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft products preferred.
