Position Overview

In this role, you’ll be assisting with asphalt plant operations, maintenance and strategic planning. You’ll be learning new skills and assisting with the day to day operations involved with the production of asphalt. We work hard, and we have fun doing it!

This is a semi-skilled position that will work at the Asphalt Plant performing general maintenance, clean-up and housekeeping tasks.  Must be highly motivated with a strong sense of teamwork.

 

Wage: $29.00/HR

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions):

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain asphalt plant operations to ensure timely production of asphalt.
  • Verify specified asphalt mix and enter correct mix design into computer.  Monitor gauges, dials and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications.
  • Coordinate production and loading of all asphalt leaving the plant.
  • Communicate and receive directions from dispatch, drivers, operators and customers via radio or phone.
  • Service and grease plant parts, i.e. change belts, grease bearings, and maintain cleanliness of the plant.
  • Order and maintain inventory of plant parts, grease, asphalt oil, etc.
  • Direct general operations of loader operator, laborer and scale operator.
  • Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in construction or related field preferred. 

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Use of machines, tools, equipment; front end loader, hand and power tools, jackhammer, welding equipment, shovel, rake, broom.
  • Knowledge in operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in Asphalt construction.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and the exercise of independent judgment.

  • The ability to work at heights that generally range from 25 feet to 90 feet.
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.
  • Demonstrates the willingness to learn and work a variety of job tasks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.

  • Able to move/carry objects up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to perform on a skilled laborer position as well.
