Position Overview

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.
  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within company’s operations for transportation department. Fleet size is approximately 100 drivers
  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company goals.
  • Assist in managing transportation budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the Transportation Manager.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Build effective teams and develop direct reports for future opportunities.
  • Ensure that all fleets have the tools and training to operate safely at all times and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environment and other applicable areas are adhered to.
  • Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process.
  • Work with Transportation Manager to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.
  • Be an innovator, constantly striving for safer ways to improve production, improve our products, and enhance the customer experience.
  • Provide leadership and direction in conjunction with our sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.
  • May require some travel and work away from home.
  • Participate in and promote a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated progressive responsibility or growth in transportation, ready-mix, logistics or similar industries.
  • Working knowledge of trucking, transportation and/or logistics.
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA/DOT driver rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office and the ability to rapidly learn different software applications including point of sale, payroll, and GPS Tracking Software. 
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to use decision making skills for cost effective solutions on projects.
  • Customer oriented, maintaining positive relations with carriers and transportation personnel.
  • Valid driver’s license.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid CDL and Medical Card.
  • Working knowledge or general understanding of human resource principles is a plus.
  • Be knowledgeable of materials and equipment needed to perform tasks.


Work Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined per company policy.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Typically infrequently.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA, DOT/FMCSA and/or MSHA.

  • Ability to walk or stand greater than one third of the time, or sit no greater than a third of the time
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders to examine equipment at heights.
  • Ability to occasionally move/carry objects up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
