Position Overview

Under basic supervision, operates a motorized street sweeper to clean streets, gutters and particularly concrete/asphalt plant sites as designated by Management.  Service locations may include jobsites and other miscellaneous properties as directed.  In seasonal or nonproductive occasions, the Driver may have to perform other duties as assigned.     


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Safely operate a motorized sweeper and other motorized maintenance/construction equipment (skid steer) on an assigned route.

  • Clean Plant sites by referencing pre-provided drawings showing designated areas to be swept.  Work with local Plant Foreman to address any special requests

  • Perform daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance: make minor adjustments and repairs, perform daily greasing of lube points.

  • Perform equipment repairs such as: remove and replace drag shoes, brooms, skirts, belts, tensioners, and related parts.

  • Complete parts requests and report the need for major and minor mechanical/electrical repairs using CMMS Work Requests.

  • Respond to City wide spills as directed.

  • Submit mileage forms, daily reports and maintenance records as requested.  

  • Drive in traffic and maneuver truck, including backing safely, to clean debris from Plant sites.

  • Comply with DOT requirements including licensing, vehicle inspection, hours, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required and two years of experience operating a motorized sweeper OR other heavy equipment/construction vehicles.

  • Must have a valid Class B CDL with at least 2 years’ experience driving a Class B Commercial Motor Vehicle with air brake endorsement.


Work Requirements

  • Must be 21 years in age or older.  (Interstate driving)

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.

  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete necessary paperwork.

  • Ability to read Plant site maps, city street maps and other GPS based equipment information.

  • Ability to operate power and hand tools and motorized equipment and vehicles.

  • Ability to detect minor mechanical defects and perform minor repairs.

  • Ability to engage in time management and attention to detail.

  • Ability to provide efficient customer service (service to the Plants and potential jobsites).

  • Ability to operate a computer and software applications.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and managers as conditions change impacting priorities and schedules.

The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, typical seasonal cold and heat temperatures.  The employee is exposed to vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
