In this role, you’ll be responsible coordinating activities of workers engaged in flagging traffic and directing motorists through construction work zones based on the specific demands of the traffic control plan for the job. Wage: $35.10/hr DOE w/ Potential for Overtime

Note: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Starting wage will be based on hours worked and Union Status under the applicable CBA.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Maintain traffic controls in all assigned work zones.  Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager or Human Resources Manager.

  • Responsible for understanding general workflow patterns in work zones and ensuring proper protocol and traffic requirements are followed and discussed with foreman/supervisor.

  • Takes charge of placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.

  • Direct movement of traffic through site, using sign, hand and flag signals.

  • Inform construction workers when an approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accidents and injury to workers.

  • Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.

  • Communicate with local law enforcement of any traffic incidents or violations.

  • Follow direction of foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate equipment and PPE for the task.

  • Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.

  • Be kind and courteous to the traveling public, pedestrians, and co-workers.

  • Dig, spread, and level construction materials.

  • Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.

  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.

  • Regular and timely attendance.

  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

 

 

Qualifications 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current member or able to join the local Laborers Union.

  • Must be able to obtain Certified Erosion Control Specialist Lead Certification after 90 days of start date. 

  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.

  • Report to the assigned job site in uniform and ready to begin work at the designated start time.

  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and /or MSHA. PPE that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment-controlled substance testing. 

  • Safety sensitive: “Per RCW 49.44.240 this position has been identified by the employer as safety sensitive and will be subject to an employer-required pre-employment drug screening that includes testing for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.”

  • Demonstrates the ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed.

  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.

  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous related experience in multi-lane and heavy highway construction. 

  • Permitting experience preferred.

  • Regularly exposed to traffic hazards and moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, however, PPE will be provided by our team to keep you safe. Please provide your own pair of steel-toed boots.

  • Job requires the following motions: bending, hammering, stooping, pushing, pulling, squatting, throwing. Walking and standing occupy most of the work day.
