Position Overview

Lead and manage company in all aspects of safety, operations, sales, finance, equipment and critical support functions with primary responsibility for ensuring effective execution of company operational performance and growth strategy.  Competency requirements include business acumen, customer focus, developing direct reports, drive for results, strategic agility and building effective teams.  The preferred candidate can lead and motivate within a safe team environment.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees; work with safety and field personnel to minimize risk and increase safety for employees at all times.

  • Responsible for daily operations including safe production, quality, customer focus and maintaining the integrity of the safety and environmental systems within company’s operations.

  • Drive operational performance and improvements to meet or exceed company and regional goals.

  • Generate and manage the operating budget for the fiscal year under the direction of the President.

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.

  • Build effective teams and develop (direct reports) for future opportunities.

  • Lead team in personal performance management, training and development, succession planning and effective recruiting and hiring.

  • Ensure that all crews have the tools and training to operate safely at all times and that all federal, state and local laws concerning safety, environment and other applicable areas are adhered to.

  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of the superintendents to ensure projects are built safely, on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.

  • Provide advice and support to team during the job bidding process.

  • Management of Capital Expenditure Projects for assigned area.

  • Work with the President to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies.

  • Contribute to the leadership and direction in sales and marketing efforts resulting in maximum product sales, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, and driving maximum profitability.

  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. 

  • Other duties as may be assigned. 

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining, Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related discipline and/or equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and abilities.  Advanced degree preferred.

  • Ten years in a management role within the construction industry. Aggregates experience preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to prepare annual budgets and work with and/or administer budget; ability to answer questions and present financial data to the President and others.

  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.

  • Demonstrated success in managing large group of employees.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Viewpoint, Tableau.

  • Project management skills.

  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.

  • Strong work ethic and high standards for safety in the workplace.

  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; building rapport, listening, presenting, giving and receiving feedback.

  • Ability to communicate with civic leaders and local, state, and national policy makers.

 

General Requirements 

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures per company policy.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Approximately 30 – 40% of the time.

  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Individual is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes and Safety Vest.  

  • Knowledge and understanding of functional areas within the company.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and exemplary oral/written communication skills.

  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.

  • Energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and ability to present themselves professionally.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.

  • Must be able to work independently and with groups.

  • Must be able to work under time constraints as needed.
