Overview  

Safety Managers provide internal consulting services, activities, actions and leadership in support of our company’s continuous improvement in the areas of environmental, health and safety. It is expected that the Safety Manager will perform at the highest levels of professionalism and support the efforts of all levels of leadership. Safety Managers should prioritize safety of themselves and others, foster teamwork and maintain a positive work environment. 

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities  

  • Provide safety training, oversight and compliance support to the Concrete line of business. 
  • Assist in maintaining safety compliance and awareness through frequent, regular and ongoing site visits. Utilize these site visits to collaborate with local leadership. and employees in addressing safety issues and promoting a culture of care.  
  • Train and assist management in developing Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), Human Performance, investigations of incidents/injuries, and proper coaching of employees for safety-related incidents.    
  • Assist in the safety oversight of contractors, including qualification, insurance requirements and oversight of high hazard work (i.e. trenching & excavation, work at elevations, exposure to traffic, etc.)
  • Participate in safety pre-planning of large projects.  
  • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of developing and sharing best practices throughout our facilities.  
  • Support Safety/Event Learning Teams (SLT/ELT) and other safety problem solving endeavors and develop future leaders of these teams so they can self-facilitate and perpetuate the learning process. 
  • Assist management in their establishment of appropriate systems to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and appropriate safety supplies for specific tasks and activities. 
  • Provide oversight and coordination of substance abuse testing in accordance with Group policies. 
  • Initiation of conservative first aid for resolution of symptoms and/or recommendation for further evaluation by an occupational health physician. Assist managers in the assignment of appropriate light or modified duty work. 
  • Consultation with physicians, nurses, or case managers and insurance claims adjusters on behalf of the employer/employee in professionally handling all facets of injury management, Worker’s Compensation claims, and communication.   
  • Provide oversight of driver safety training, coaching and motor carrier compliance efforts (DOT). 
  • Interact and consult with other HR, EHS & CRH/AMAT department members to develop new safety initiatives, objectives and best practices.  
  • Assist management, Group counsel and insurance professionals in defending the Group against claims and lawsuits to effectively defend against unreasonable demands and/or resolving matters requiring reasonable resolution. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned. 

 

Requirements  

  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background check and driving record review. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States 
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. 
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays when necessary. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Regular and timely attendance is required. 
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Safety Vest. 
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety. 

 

Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in an occupational safety-related field, engineering, or sciences is highly preferred or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience in a safety management or supervisory role. 

Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety department supporting a multi-site organization or equivalent or relevant job experience.

Prior knowledge/experience in concrete manufacturing/delivery highly desired.
