Summary

 

This position directs and coordinates activities concerned with the manufacturing and shipping of bulk, bagged and pelletized products at the Thomasville operation.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Responsible for own personal safety at all times, as well as, maintaining the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job. Be familiar with and follow the CRH Life Saving Rules.
  • Ensures that personnel comply with company safety and health programs along with MSHA regulations.
  • Establishes, communicates, and assigns job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within the department.
  • Affects job performance through motivation, establishing goals, and providing feedback.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of production associates to ensure that work performed meets operational objectives and requirements.
  • Confers with quality control, production planner, and maintenance to ensure production activities are coordinated with those groups to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources and equipment.
  • Coordinates production schedules with the daily production plan.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of plant-related projects improving safety, quality control, costs, and capacity.
  • Conducts or directs training of employees to improve work performance and motivates work force to accomplish both location and company objectives.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, and makes presentations to managers, customers and/or employees. 
  • Consults with cost control and purchasing personnel to assure cost-effective purchase of goods and services, and requisitions supplies as required.
  • Applies knowledge of production principles and practices to assist with investigation of improvement ideas and resolution of problem areas.
  • Participates in plant staff meetings, team meetings (as applicable), and on-call duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as needed.
  • Regular and timely attendance.

 

Other Requirements

  • Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Able to work various times during day, night, or weekend hours.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; College Degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of industrial operations or related supervisory experience
  • Experience with crushing / grinding / pneumatic conveying equipment a plus.
  • LEAN, Six Sigma, 5S experience a plus.
  • Manufacturing or Heavy equipment experience is a plus

  • Strong leadership and management skills. Individual must exhibit professional ability to deal with others and to create constructive working relationships.
  • Self-starter and able to take responsibly and initiative upon themselves.  Ability to prioritize, schedule, and coordinate multiple activities and delegate activities to the workforce.
  • Must be self-confident; make critical decisions on a timely basis; think outside the box and be proactive vs. reactive.
  • Analytical skills are needed to help identify opportunities for improvement or optimization of processes, quality, safety, or other operational resources as well as to resolve problems.
  • Leadership skills are needed to assure that production employees work safely, efficiently, and toward common corporate/location goals and objectives.
  • Administrative skills are required to manage paperwork, schedule work to both meet customer needs and optimize the use of personnel and equipment and ensure that employees have the resources needed to execute their activities safely and efficiently.
  • Planning skills are needed to ensure that timely completion of programs and objectives satisfy legal and corporate objectives.
  • Training and team building skill will be needed to improve individual competencies as well as develop focused group action.
  • Communications skills will be used to interact with employees at all levels of the organization as well as external customers.
  • Delegation skills are necessary to plan, direct and assign work as may be appropriate.
  • Use of PC with Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
