Position Overview

 

The primary function of the Plant Superintendent is to direct and coordinate activities leading to the quality production of company products. This position may occasionally require equipment and/or plant operation along with labor.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Direct and coordinate, through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with production of concrete, and associated aggregate materials as necessary utilizing knowledge of production technology, methods and procedures and capabilities of machinery and equipment.
  • Assure compliance with all regulatory mandates, company policies and procedures governing worker safety and plant operation.
  • Confer with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls.
  • Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
  • Coordinate production activities with procurement, maintenance and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of non-conformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  • Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate problems, improve product quality and assure the operational status of company plants does not affect production of material for customers.
  • Maintain and improve the appearance of company property and facilities.
  • Responsible for ensuring operating cost are within budgeted amounts

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Education/Experience

  • Education: High School Graduate
  • Experience: Five years supervisory experience with concrete, asphalt or aggregate operations.

 

Work Requirements

  • This position directly supervises ready mix equipment and operations.
  • Communicate with customers, dispatch and other company departments as required to assure the safe, accurate and timely delivery of company products and service.
  • Communicate with Management on any subordinate commendations, disciplinary actions, operational deficiencies, QC issues, productivity issues or unusual purchase requirements.
  • Schedule PTO, and communicate unexcused absences and tardiness to Management. Prepare incident reports as appropriate.
  • Verify, review and approve daily timecards and production purchases. Ensure all timecards and invoices are forwarded to the office in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate accident/incident information to Management immediately. Verify completion of accident/incident reports and assist the Manager with accident reports and investigations.
  • Review and analyze productivity reports for continual operational improvements. Conduct designated performance appraisals. Compile, verify and record accurate production, QC, purchasing, inventory, and best practice reports as necessary.
  • Reflect a professional appearance and attitude with all work related activities. Encourage professional attitudes and appearances with all subordinate employees. Maintain positive professional relationships with all customers and employees.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge: Supervisory experience, construction and or concrete operations experience, computer skills, regulations governing areas of responsibilities. Familiarity with, OSHA, EPA, and State and Federal procedures, practices and specifications as they relate to QC and production activities.
  • Decisions involving the above responsibilities are encountered on a day to day basis. The Plant Manager is expected to rely on professional judgment to make decisions while working. Decisions regarding changes in company policy or major deviations in standard company operating procedures will require the approval of the Operations Manager or General Manager.
  • Work Hours:  Individuals in this position can expect to work 45 hours per week.

Physical Requirements

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
