The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Develop and implement strong strategic plans, uphold corporate standards, and pursue initiatives the drive value for the business. Support new sales and increased market penetration while utilizing knowledge of logistics and rail to grow profit margins and deliver on efficiency.
The VP of Sales, Logistics and Rail will reinforce consistent leadership and management of direct staff, and work to develop team members to ensure consistency in performance and the ability to deliver excellence. Additionally, they will ensure that facetime between sales representatives and customers occurs on a daily basis and work to build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, rail carriers, leasing companies, etc. to support logistics and rail operations. Utilize knowledge of logistics and rail to develop competitive pricing strategies, consistently maximizing opportunity to drive down costs and support the operation’s strategic initiatives related to materials delivery, shipments and product availability.
Must be willing to engage with all key stakeholders on a regular basis. Have strong working knowledge of both the financial and operational expectations related to hot mix asphalt and aggregates. Possess a working knowledge of Salesforce, Quote to Cash, Viewpoint, etc. and utilize these resources to report out on key performance metrics for the organization, prepare budgets and pricing strategies and deliver on CapEx. In this role, regular interaction with Division General Manager (VP), Vice Presidents of Aggregates and Construction, HMA, the Controller and other business leadership is required to ensure collaboration with all lines of business and provide the opportunity to identify and act on all opportunities in the best interest of The Shelly Company and CRH.
Classification: Monthly salaried position.
Key Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Support and continue to drive the current regional sales strategies; uphold corporate standards, drive new sales, increase market share and profits.
- Provide management and leadership for the sales, logistics and rail staff, perform regular performance reviews and develop stretch performance and development goals.
- Assist in developing strategic plans, vision and pricing strategies utilizing comprehensive knowledge of sales, logistics and rail
- Participate in the demand forecast process. Review and monitor weekly and update monthly.
- Interact regularly with operations and other lines of business to ensure products are available to meet customer demand and to be aware of any internal/external conditions that may impact sales and/or the customer.
- Support scheduling efforts between sales, transportation, rail and operations teams, both short and long term, for customers (internal and external) to feed DF3.
- Oversee long term sourcing strategies of rail, plants and customers (internal and external) in conjunction with material orders team and operations
- Coordinate efforts between sales and rail operations to build and maintain strong relationship with key rail customers, maintain knowledge of customer preferences to ensure Shelly is considered their primary supplier.
- Develop partnerships with outside carriers, vendors, customers (both internal and external) to support sales, logistics and rail operations.
- Provide quality transportation and rail services for internal and external customer base.
- Utilize equipment and trucking fleet to maximize opportunities for the business
- Continually evaluate the market, maintain awareness of the competitive environment and profitable status of each account.
- Prepare and present market results, forecast, and overall health in financial and performance reviews. Generate and report accurate backlogs for both aggregate and asphalt.
- Identify opportunities to grow the regional customer base and prepare action plans to convert sales prospects into new accounts.
- Conduct presentations and discussions to promote the products/ company/ industry.
- Conduct visits to ongoing projects to understand product applications and to help in developing strong customer relationships.
- Identify and resolve concerns and investigate issues should any arise.
- Prepare, present and deploy budgets, CapEx initiatives and pricing strategies
- Travel extensively within the region and as necessary to support and foster the customer relationship.
- Perform other duties as directed. Must be committed to providing and promoting a safe work environment.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 7 or more years of related experience.
- Ability to respond to stressful situations and customers in a professional manner.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and reasoning skills, mathematical abilities and account management/maintenance skills.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities.
- Proficient computer skills with web-based applications and MS Office products; Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
- Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.
- A valid driver’s license.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.
