Position Overview
As the Assistant Quarry Superintendent in Wallingford, the selected candidate will be required to ensure that quarry sites operate efficiently and successfully. Oversees all operations, coordinates production, monitors site systems and hires and develops staff. Ensuring safety, security, quality and timeliness will all be important responsibilities of this position.
You will report directly to the Quarry Superintendent and assist with all quarry operations. Our core values are safety, quality and integrity in everything we do. You will establish key internal relationships to help ensure safety continues to be embedded in the culture of our Company.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Assures compliance with all safety and company and government policies and procedures
- Analyze and correct hazardous conditions
- Train new crew members.
- Supervise quarry employees and operations, including, ascertaining progress in meeting time schedules to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment.
- Supervises and coordinates crew activities, reviews preventative maintenance schedules and estimates work requirements for completion of reactive repairs within time constraints.
- Effectively manage staff by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback and providing development through training.
- Request necessary personnel to staff the plant for the forecast level of operations. Assign tasks, train and check progress of personnel, frequently keeping them advised of their progress.
- Analyze results of plant operations to pinpoint the variances from plans.
- Direct mine and pit planning
- Keep controllable operating expenses within budget allowance while conducting a continuous cost reduction program and being alert for other improvements in plant operation.
- Maintains time and materials records necessary for maintenance.
- Assume responsibility for developing a qualified lead person to fill in or replace quarry leadership roles whenever necessary.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality and crew performance.
- Identify deficiencies and implement a plan for continuous improvement.
- Maintain properties in good condition and appearance
- Participates in special projects or tasks as assigned.
Education/Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Previous related experience in mining and/or construction field is preferred not required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a supervisory position is preferred not required.
- Knowledge of profit and loss statements and an understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Office and the ability to rapidly learn different software applications.
- Possess strong basic math knowledge.
- Basic surveying and mapping skills are preferred.
- Strong communication and leadership skills are necessary.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of MSHA regulations.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently and to direct employees effectively.
