What You’ll Do

Join our team as the Shop Manager and play a pivotal role in steering the operations of our five bustling shops located in Yakima, Wenatchee, Sunnyside, and Ephrata. You will be at the forefront, providing strategic guidance and leadership to our dedicated mechanics, preventative maintenance staff, and shop leads. Your mission will be to oversee the seamless maintenance and repair of both mobile and stationary equipment, ensuring efficiency and adherence to cost controls and budgets.

 

We are on the lookout for a candidate who not only possesses a robust background in diesel/heavy equipment maintenance but also brings to the table exceptional people skills. The ability to navigate and lead a diverse range of personalities is crucial in this role. While supervisory experience is a plus, it is not a prerequisite. Location: This is an in-person position, with a preference to be based out of our Yakima location. Other locations may be an option based on availability and candidate preference. This position will require local travel to Yakima, Wenatchee, Sunnyside, and Ephrata as needed, and could include 10 – 25% overnight travel in the area.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance, leadership, motivation and support to a diverse group of individuals by setting an example.
  • Background in truck/heavy construction equipment maintenance.
  • Safety-minded individual who demonstrates the ability to champion all safety initiatives.
  • The ability to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Database software.  
  • A valid driver’s license, current authorization to work in the United States, and pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.

 

Work Requirements:

  • This position has been identified by the employer as safety sensitive and will be subject to an employer-required pre-employment drug screening that includes testing for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.
  • This position is not eligible for current or future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Engage in and ensure effective safety culture is in place throughout shop departments with an overall goal of zero incidents and in accordance with company policy.
  • Supervision of all shop personnel, including the parts department, equipment cost accounting, and shop administration.
  • Administration of work request / work orders of all mobile equipment in a proper, timely, safe, and economical manner. Monitor and record fleet availability and fleet utilization.
  • Coordinate with all field personnel and management regarding required equipment maintenance.
  • Manage the purchasing system for all equipment, including lubricants, fuel, tires, repair parts, and subcontract repair.
  • Manage repair decisions on items which may be subcontracted and communicated with Regional Equipment Manager.
  • Manage inventories, including monitoring for leaks in fuel tanks.
  • Manage proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Manage loss control system for all mobile equipment owned by the holding company to prevent loss or theft.  Monitor all mobile equipment for accountability on a temporary assignment or on a permanent transfer.
  • Partner with Reginal Equipment Manager to solicit bids and data and make recommendations to management on purchasing decisions.
  • Make recommendations to management on timing of equipment replacements based on age, operating costs, and/or utilization.
  • Facilitate and manage Capital Expenditure process in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with Regional/Divisional Capital processes.
  • Become familiar with new and used equipment markets to make recommendations to management on purchase and disposal of major equipment.
  • Manage computerized record-keeping systems (CMMS) to monitor pertinent maintenance data to aid in determining the most cost-effective trucks, engines, components, tires, or other key repair materials.
  • Assure implementation of company employment policies and manage appropriate labor contracts.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and approve all purchases per company standards and expectations.
  • Organize and implement shop safety meetings and training.
  • Train others to this level of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
