Position Overview

The Quality Control (QC) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and directing the quality control work and Technicians within the asphalt group throughout all NY & NJ locations.  Under the leadership of the QC Director, the Supervisor will oversee and support all daily quality control operations and ensure all work is completed to Tilcon NY and industry standards. 


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide the leadership that develops and sustains a team that supports our core values of Safety, Integrity & Quality using C.A.R.E., Compliance, Accountability, Risk Assessment, and Engagement.  Participate in workplace audits, risk assessments and inspections.

  • Ensure all quality control activities required to produce hot mix asphalt (HMA) that meets specifications of the many different agency owners that are our customers.
  • Coordinating and scheduling daily tasks with team.  Delegate work load equitably and expect accountability.

Communicating upwards when there are staffing gaps and adjust to changing demand on a daily basis.

  • Support product quality and customer service by maintaining strong line of communication with aggregate, recycle and asphalt site supervision and their teams.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and training of associates.  Provide coaching and feedback as necessary.
  • Assist in adjustment of mix composition to ensure HMA stays within specifications.
  • Support implementation of new technologies (high RAP and performance testing).
  • Maintain current QC/QA certifications, calibrations, and laboratory audits.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; and be able to protect Tilcon sensitive information, commercial and personnel.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in Tilcon New York’s and CRH safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations including (MSHA) Mine Safety and Health Administration and (OSHA) Occupational Safety and Health Administration affecting asphalt plant production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance and compliance of such regulations. 
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
  • Additional duties as assigned or required.



Marginal Duties and Functions

  • Occasional night and weekend availability.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviewing, and hiring process as necessary.

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with 5 years+ of practical work experience.





  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.E.) from four-year college or university; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • NJSAT certified in HMA Plant and Paving Technician.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High level of proficiency with StonemontQC software and all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.



Work Requirements

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Face Shield, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Dust masks & Hearing Protection.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in specifications, reports, manuals and regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff, customers and the public.
  • Ability to carry out standardized laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations pertaining to, but not limited to, safety, the environment and transportation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic laboratory procedures and quarry and asphalt plants.
  • Ability to detect safety hazards and malfunctions and respond accordingly.
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical skills, office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data.  This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, and web-based programs.
  • Be familiar with all roles, equipment, and tasks associated with your project(s) and have the ability and willingness to fill in on any role or task as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written.
