Job Summary

 

This position is responsible for assisting in business-critical tasks related to indirect taxes and various areas of compliance, including sales and use tax reporting and audits. The Indirect Tax Analyst will also lead process improvement activities geared toward creating a sustainable model for ongoing timely and accurate compliance while proactively limiting exposure to risk. This role will play a large part on a small team and will have frequent interaction with all levels of the organization.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Ensuring compliance with the state Sales & Use Tax laws while minimizing assessments from sales & use tax audits
  • Addressing any Sales & Use Tax deficiencies or issues with the appropriate locations to ensure future compliance
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including the Indirect Tax team, Shared Services, IT Partners, and Business/Finance Leaders to ensure smooth effective integration of indirect tax transformational initiatives
  • Managing compliance functions including the preparation of state and local Sales & Use Tax returns using Avalara Indirect Tax Return
  • Software and ensuring all returns are completed and filed in a timely accurate manner
  • Assist on various tax projects as assigned which may involve research and compliance in sales tax, licenses, and general ledger accounting
  • Help manage workflow of the department
  • Reviewing and responding to notices from various taxing authorities
  • Reconciling various sales & use tax accounts on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Performing monthly/quarterly/annual account and bank reconciliations
  • Reviewing, validating, and advising exemption certificate management

 

Qualifications and Skills Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Business-related concentration preferred)
  • Experience in Sales & Use Tax compliance
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (among other Microsoft Suite products)
  • Experience with a business tax engine such as Avalara
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills while managing competing priorities, relationship building and overall quality management
  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills; must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate cross-functionally and through multiple channels
  • Candidates must have strong statistical and analytical skills including data retrieval and organization
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing and completing requests in an efficient manner. Attention to detail is a must while a solutions-oriented approach
