Summary and Job Scope:

Operates a straight or articulated rubber tire tractor type vehicle equipped with front mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas to feed conveyors, hoppers, chutes and load trucks. Keep conveyors free of material build-up, keep the plant, plant grounds, & loader clean & hazard free.

 

Work Environment:

Hours:  8-10 +/- hours per day.

Week:  45-50 hours per week and may work up to 70 hours per week.

Lunch:  No designated lunch period, eats as work load allows

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by complying with legislation, company policies and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Report to work on time when scheduled.
  • Safely operates power equipment.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety standards. 
  • Grease bearings and gates on the plant.
  • Keep loader greased.
  • Make visual inspection of the plant for proper operation.
  • Keep loader & plant clean and hazard free
  • Perform Back up Batch Duties as needed.

Works under the general direction of the Operations Manager.

  • Skill in operation of tools and equipment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual task under varying weather conditions.
  • Drivers License with less than 6 points.

 

Judgment:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Qualifications:

A review of the essential job functions and physical requirements of this position (complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) has been made.  In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities are listed below:

 

Education and/or Experience:  

High School diploma or GED. 1-2 years prior driving heavy equipment and general equipment/grounds maintenance experience.  Must have and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

 

Language Skills:                                                      

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.       

           

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to frequently reach for materials at waist level and occasionally reach for freight above shoulder height or below waist level.
  • Must be able to occasionally reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the control to operate a truck.
  • Must be able to push/pull 20-25 lbs. of pull for hood.
  • Must be able to climb approximately 3 feet to engine compartment, frequently climb ladder to enter and exit cab.
  • Must be able to spend at least 85% of the day sitting/standing and 25% of the day walking on surfaces such as concrete, gravel, wood and metal and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
  • To be able to shovel under conveyor belts when needed and must be able to use water hose for cleaning.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Vehicle will travel on uneven terrain and may be bouncy.  The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  Must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health.

 

Special Needs:  Must be able to utilize personal protective equipment; hard hats, appropriate foot protection, back support belts, gloves, respirators, both disposable and air fed.
