Position Overview
Duties and responsibilities include inspecting vehicles with diesel engines and making sure that all the moving engine parts, as well as any other moving parts in a vehicle, are lubricated with grease or other recommended lubricant as well as checking vehicle fluid levels, changing oil, replacing oil and air filters, visually inspecting belts and hoses for signs of wear, and inspecting for other repairs that may be required.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance (change oil and filter, lubrication, coolant, and fuel).
- Analyze malfunctions and report the need for further diagnostics or repair to shift lead or shop foreman.
- Operate and inspect vehicle equipment to diagnose defects.
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hand tools.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
- Use computer-based maintenance software to create work orders, schedule PMs, and document needed repairs.
- Perform general cleaning of work areas and maintenance areas.
- Assist other department staff in performing the duties necessary to assure the efficiency of vehicle operations.
- May work in the shop, yard, or on job sites.
- Ability to perform DOT inspections and brake adjustments.
- Perform and maintain fluid analysis program.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. His/her own tools may be required.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Two years of technical field experience servicing heavy equipment and trucks
Work Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Hold a Valid Driver’s License with a Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) preferably with tanker and Hazmat endorsements.
- MSHA and OSHA training a positive.
- Working knowledge in the operations of Windows based computers.
