Technology Project Manager – Large-Scale Application & Infrastructure Migrations
LocationDublin (Hybrid) — flexibility for occasional travel project sites.
Summary / Role Overview
We are seeking a Technology Project Manager to lead complex, large-scale migration programs spanning application portfolios, infrastructure platforms, and associated services (e.g., data, identity, networking, and security). The ideal candidate has a proven track record delivering end‑to‑end migrations—such as on‑prem to cloud/Hybrid, data center migrations, app replatforming, and identity/network transitions—while balancing delivery speed, risk, and quality.
You will orchestrate cross‑functional teams (business, technology, security, operations, vendors), build and manage detailed plans, control scope and budget, and proactively remove blockers to ensure business continuity and compliant outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Program / Project Delivery
- Own end‑to‑end planning and execution of migration projects (discovery, assessment, design, build, cutover, hypercare).
- Develop integrated project plans, detailed migration wave plans, dependency maps, and critical path tracking.
- Drive effective governance: status reporting, RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies), steering committee updates, and change control.
- Lead cutover planning and execution, including dress rehearsals, runbooks, go/no‑go criteria, and post‑migration stabilization (hypercare).
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Align with business owners, product/application teams, and operations to agree scope, timelines, acceptance criteria, and service readiness.
- Coordinate with cloud providers, hardware vendors, integrators, and managed services partners; negotiate and manage Statements of Work.
- Communicate clearly and frequently to technical and non-technical audiences; escalate timely with options and impact analysis.
Financials & Compliance
- Build and manage budgets, forecasts, resource plans, and procurement; track benefits realization (cost, resiliency, scalability).
- Ensure migrations adhere to security, regulatory, and compliance requirements (e.g., data protection, change management, audit trails).
- Partner with InfoSec and Risk to run threat modeling, control mapping, and pre‑/post‑migration security validation.
Technical Orchestration
- Coordinate application remediation, data migration strategies, identity and access changes, networking and firewall updates, and performance testing.
- Oversee environment readiness, capacity planning, and rollback strategies.
- Drive operational readiness: runbooks, monitoring/alerting updates, DR plans, backup/restore validation, and support handover.
Continuous Improvement
- Capture and apply lessons learned across waves; refine frameworks, playbooks, and templates.
- Promote best practices to reduce cycle time and defects.
Core Competencies
- Delivery Excellence: Mastery of project planning, RAID management, status reporting, and change control in multi‑workstream programs.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of application architectures, infrastructure (compute, storage, network), cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), identity (AD/Azure AD/Entra), and security controls.
- Risk & Resilience Mindset: Skilled at scenario planning, rollback design, and cutover risk mitigation to protect business continuity.
- Stakeholder Influence: Capable of aligning diverse technical and business stakeholders, managing expectations, and driving decisions.
- Communication: Clear, concise, and audience‑appropriate communication; excellent documentation and runbook creation.
- Analytical & Problem Solving: Data-driven approach; adept at dependency mapping, impact analysis, and troubleshooting.
- Leadership: Calm under pressure, decisive, and accountable; fosters teamwork and psychological safety.
Experience & Qualifications
- 5–7+ years of technology project management experience, including 3+ years leading large-scale migrations (applications + infrastructure).
- Demonstrable delivery of at least two of the following at enterprise scale:
- Data center migrations
- On‑prem to cloud migrations (Azure/AWS/GCP)
- Application portfolio migration (replatform/rehost)
- Identity & access transitions (AD, Azure AD/Entra) and PKI changes
- Network segmentation, firewall policy migration, SD‑WAN adoption
- Data platform migrations
- Strong familiarity with:
- Cloud: Azure (preferred), AWS or GCP; landing zones, guardrails
- Infra: virtualization, storage, backup/restore, DR, monitoring/observability
- Security & Compliance: controls mapping, vulnerability management, encryption, audit readiness
- Methodologies/Certifications (nice to have):
- PMP/PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum, SAFe
- ITIL Foundation or higher
- Cloud certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure Administrator/Architect, AWS Solutions Architect)
- Tools Expertise:
- Project tools (e.g., MS Project, Planner, Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps)
- CMDB/ITSM (ServiceNow), monitoring (Azure Monitor, Grafana), documentation (SharePoint)
- Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Working Model
