Job Summary


We are currently seeking a full-time Oven Operator in our Moorestown, NJ Location. This position requires the tempering oven be operated from start-up to shut-down within required oven recipes for specific glass types, along with glass quality monitoring and constant communication with all employees on the line. Assist in streamlining the production line by maintaining a consistent progress flow in the line operation of the particular department. This is a 2nd shift position. Shift start time is 5:00 pm Mon-Fri. Availability must be 5 pm to 5 am when needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:      


  • Ability to use and understand computerized oven controls in order to change/adjust oven recipes
  • Handle product in a manner that will not cause damage to the product or injury to self or others
  • Safely perform and record quality tests required by Oldcastle and outside quality agencies
  • Learn and understand ASTM and other quality standards
  • Monitor and report any equipment maintenance issues to ensure Oven is operating to specifications
  • Ability to perform documented start-up and shut-down procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the other employees on the line about quality or mechanical issues
  • Assist supervisor in overseeing personnel and production to ensure the final product is manufactured safely, is of high quality, and delivered on time to customer
  • Operate all sections/stations of the work center for employee training and troubleshooting purposes
  • Assist department supervisor in handling the production line personnel as well as the production workflow
  • Train new hires and/or transfers into the department
  • Ensure that all personnel, prior to the start of the shift, are wearing the correct safety equipment and that safety awareness is maintained
  • Ensure that individuals are applying proper techniques that comply with proper quality control procedures
  • Check machinery for proper function and report to the supervisor if necessary
  • Ensure that work effort is being applied effectively and that company quality standards and production capacities for the shift are met.
  • Provide feedback to Department Supervisor regarding performance of department employees
  • Regular and predictable attendance, safely perform tasks and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of your job.




To be considered for a Lead/ Operator position, the following conditions must be met:

  • Ability to lead by example
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer familiarity
  • Read and use a tape measure
  • Able to read and perform mathematical calculations and measurements with numbers, fractions, and decimals normally acquired through high school education or equivalency
  • Perform work as assigned by supervisor
  • Ability to complete paperwork
  • Attach appropriate labels and tags to products and packages
  • Notify supervisor of any mechanical or material issues
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to wear all required safety equipment, including safety boots with metatarsal guards
  • Must be able to walk, stand, climb, bend, crouch, and work in a factory environment as many as 10 or more hours per day
  • Lift up to 75 lbs., repeatedly, on a regular basis
  • Must be able to work in hot environment
  • This position requires a lot of bending, twisting, and reaching




  • Dolly, crane, glass cups, tape measure, calculator, caliper, computer, and other various tools




  • Hazards – Exposure to chemicals/fumes, pinch points, exposure to excessive noise, strains/sprain, laceration/puncture, particulate exposure, contusion, operation of foot controls, slipping, burns, shock, loss of limb, elevated temperatures during summer months
  • Controls – Personal protective equipment, safety training, written procedures
  • Safety Equipment – Safety glasses, steel toe shoes with metatarsal guards, cut resistant gloves with liners, cut resistant outerwear, hard hat and hearing protection


Work Environment


  • Work performed inside a production environment
  • Noise levels in the work environment can be moderate to high
  • The plant facility is subject to the same climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc)
  • Chemicals, dust, pollen, and other typical airborne particulate matter are present in the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant.  The Company, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through procedures, engineering controls, and PPE
  • While some chemicals may pose health risks if not properly used, employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals
  • While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company’s hazardous communication program
