Summary

We are currently seeking candidates for an environmental & mining technician position with Stoneco of Michigan

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The criteria for evaluation in this position include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Quarterly storm water inspections of aggregate and asphalt sites
  • Quarterly visual assessment of storm water control systems
  • Track and review monthly SPCC and storm water inspections
  • Participate in environmental audits of aggregate operations, asphalt plants, and oil terminals
  • Aid engineering staff with SPCC and stormwater plan updates
  • Organize and convert environmental files to electronic media
  • Conduct quarterly monitoring of wells at various locations
  • Gather data for hydrological studies as needed at the direction of the environmental engineer
  • Obtain visual emissions certification and conduct visual observations as needed
  • Conduct UAV surveys for inventory control and mine planning as needed
  • Assist mine engineer with management of rock coring program including:  database management, assist with coring in field, and gathering of field data, and visual observations of coring process
  • Assist mining and environmental engineers with site permitting
  • Other environmental testing, observation, and reporting as needed
  • NOA dust sampling at aggregate sites
  • Other tasks as directed by the environmental engineer
     

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, geology, or a related discipline from an accredited university
  • Previous experience in the mining industry

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, background check and have a clean driving record.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Must have the ability to work without close supervision.
     

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work with management.
  • Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Demonstrate effective skills in dealing with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to be work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn AutoCad, and Carlson mine planning software
  • Negotiating, analytical, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires walking, standing, bending, twisting, sitting, and lifting more than 50lbs.

  • Stoneco of Michigan requires a 90 day probationary period for all new hires.  Employee performance can be reviewed for continued employment at any time during this 90 day period.
